I still feel terrible. And tired. And dizzy whenever I stand up. But I also had some yummy Campbell's microwave soup with a biscuit. Mmmm. Biscuit. Plus I just found The Blogess and I'm litterally crying from laughing...
lurkerwithout: (OMFG!)
I need to remember to re-bookmark Plok's page when I get home. Because watching people way smarter than me talk about shit serves as a nice antidote to the rest of the unwashed internets masses, who I just want to punch in the face for a couple of hours...

Huh. Apparantly Jimmy Boy CAN be polite and take one of his "thats not sexism" arguements off someone ELSE's blog. All you have to do is marry him. There you go [profile] morchades, now you know how to stop one of his tl;dr comment feuds...

So out of boredom, I decide to check the commentary on the "review" of Dresden Codak from the I Hate You Because I Enjoy Attention (Not That I Fault That As I Hate HIM Because I Need Attention) Blog. And I come across this PURE GENIUS comment:

Wanker G. Spot said...
Webcomics absolutely do have to be realistic, as does any kind of art if it wants to have anything to say about the world. To say something about the world you must be rooted in it. Emotion, humour or anything else will always ring false when couched in childish fantasies of magic, superheroes and animal-people. To set your story in a made up world or universe is simply avoiding the world and should not be tolerated. Good art can be related to.

I mean the username is just the perfect Idiot Cherry on His Dumb-Ass Sunday. Hey, this is fun! And easy! No wonder [profile] kevin_church started a 14th Blog just pointing out stupid people...

Since there really is no point in hoping I'd get this thru her Moderated Comments:

I finally removed When Fangirls Attack off my feed and blogroll. I have nothing against people who visit it, and I think if you find it useful or entertaining you should continue to do so. I've been at the receiving end of pretty inexplicably nasty and bitter comments by one half of that team for some time now, and I see no reason to continue to support them. I used to justify keeping them on the blogroll, long past the time when I visited the site on a regular basis, out of the feeling like "well, they're doing this great service for women in comics, and well heck that makes it all okay." But, I think the fact of them being female and writing (or rather, linking to) female topics is not enough for me, based on some sense of "gender unity," to overlook their pettiness.

What the hell Val? I mean you want to drop someone from your Sideboard or Blog trawl or what not, whatever. You want to recomend that other people who read you do the same? Go for it. I've done the same. But go ahead and fucking name names. Ragnell is hardly going to change her opinion of you because you act all coy. And speaking of that, why do point out that its Lisa and her opinions you have a problem with and then keep saying "they". Did Kalinara post something about you I missed? Is she sending you secret hate mails? Did she touch you with her hands with their Lawyer-in-training Cooties?

Seriously way to be passive-agressive...

As for Kevin Church's bizarre and adamant objections to, of all things, a post on search engine optimization (as if two posts on that subject cannot exist at the same time or teh internets blow up), I am content to believe this is his version of an Andy Kaufman routine, and leave it at that.

And why are you willing to drop Kevin's name AND put a link back to him? Something you don't do for either WFA, Ragnell or Kalinara?

So while skimming my blog roll, I noticed that a friend had a link to Your Webcomic is bad. I'd read them before a few times, then it went on hiatus, then it came back with comments disabled, then it paused again and came back saying it would have commentary again then didn't. But anyway, there is a relatively recent "review" of webcomic Dresden Codak. And by review I mean he (or possibly they, as it used to be four reviewers. But since I could never tell their "styles" apart I have no idea if thats still true.) attacks Dresden Codak's creator for 1. saying he's going to make the comic his business and then not making his weekly update schedule and 2. its only popular because us nerds want to fuck the main character now. Not like back in the day, when it was still cool. And only sometimes about Kimiko "Thunderbolt" Ross. See if you have a webcomic and its somewhat popular and it has an attractive female lead, then it follows that its only us nerd-manboys and our lonely lusts that drive that popularity. Women obviously don't read Dresden Codak. Unless they're lesbians I guess. Or bi. But probably still lonely...

Yep. Its not because of the comics' artistic style or imaginative storys or odd and clever humor. Nope. Its all about wanting to tap that fictional ass...

Anyway normally I'd just roll my eyes and ignore the guys blog (or their blog as the case may still be). But I'm tired and cranky so I'll bitch about it for a bit. Now, I really don't mind the Angry Review style that much. Hell, I've got a friend who still has some vague hope of making a career out of it. But Solomon (I went and checked again and I think thats the main guy. And at least one other person has written for the site in the last couple months. So I guess its still a them) and his cohorts just seem to come off as bullying. They act like they want to help "improve" the comic they tear down. But really all I get is another group of yelling people on the internet, looking to build themselves up by tearing down others...

For example, a while back they "reviewed" my friend [profile] indigoskynet's webcomic, Kismetropolis. And I'll be honest, I love Indigo, but I've never been able to get into her comic. I'll read it for awhile, get confused as to the storylines and give up. And then she'll post about it and I'll go back and try to read some more and get lost and give up and so forth. I've seen better art also, but I do think that Indigo puts a lot of energy and life into her characters. And Solomon (or whichever of them wrote the post) just tore it apart. Not offering any real advice. Just pointing out everything they found that sucked about it. Which is actual more effort than they seem to go to now. But still, it was mean-spirited. And its the kind of "humor" that I don't get...

Its why I don't read The Boys or All-Star Batman & Robin or well, Your Webcomic Is Bad...

I think I had a point in all this but I've lost it. Urgh. Need sleep...
