I still feel terrible. And tired. And dizzy whenever I stand up. But I also had some yummy Campbell's microwave soup with a biscuit. Mmmm. Biscuit. Plus I just found The Blogess and I'm litterally crying from laughing...

Waking up and checking the f-list and then seeing all the posts on McCain's concession? More than a little awesome...

Kate Beaton aka [profile] beatonna writes and draws awesome comics. Comics about Napolean

and fat ponies

and Canada and stuff

She is very cool and I'm glad I found her all on my own with only a little help from Karen Healy and none at all from my roommate [profile] kafeixuesheng who never opened a tab to her comic and then hid my mouse to try and force me to read it. Because someone who can't remember the password to his own LJ totally could never recomend a cool new comic. I mean he bought Okatane once. Oktane! Because it had the same artist as Top 10. Who does that?

Anyway, [profile] beatonna bitchrod awesome. [profile] kafeixuesheng smells faintly of cheese and once wanted to play a midget in a Forgotten Realms game...

Part the First!

Part the Middle Bit!

Part the Last!

Even if you ignore the acting of Day Lewis and Paul Dano as Eli (who are both stellar). And discounting this adapted Upton story of oil-drilling in early 20th century California (which is powerful). Or Johnny Greenwood's score which overlays much of the dialogue light sequences (which is perfect in adding to the impact and not overwhelming the moment). Even if you set ALL of that aside, this movie is worth watching for Robert Elswit's cinematography, which is just pure fucking brilliance...

Now the Season 3 premiere for the Venture Brothers? Now thats just pure awesome. The Monarch's secret history! Violent midgets! The Phantom Limb being creepy! Brief blink and you'll miss it cameo by Black M.O.D.O.K! The Guild of Calamitous Intent! Dr. Girlfriend's amazing ass!

So. Much. Awesome!

Though I must now thank my nemesis for this video of Elmo the Muppet vs. Vegeta...

Comics! Comics! Comics!

WOO!

Right. We'll start with the final issue of this volume of Cassanova. Where all I want to say is: I WAS TOTALLY RIGHT AND I TOTALLY CALLED THIS!

Next B.P.R.D. 1946 finishes up with a Nazi Head in a Jar stalling US soldiers with his cyborg gorillas so he can launch a rocket full of vampires at the US. Mike Mignola = Crazy Awesome...

The Serenity mini-series finishes up with a gun fight. And some robots. And a robbery. But its actually kind of confusing. Lots of good dialog and cool character moments in this mini, but the plot is kind of iffy...

100 Bullets continues towards the end, with Slaughter completing the job against Graves he was hired for. Or at least part of the job, not sure. Also we see that Pippin TOTALLY fucked up last issue...

And on DMZ Matty's mom arrives in town and he gives an interview for his "bosses" at Liberty. And Delgado continues to move forward towards winning the DMZ's first election in forever...

Then we go to Marvel and The Last Defenders. The Mad-bomb gets stopped, but the NJ Initiative office gets a call for help. Of course thanks to Stark there currently IS no NJ Initiative team. Luckily Richmond is, you know, massively wealthy. So if Stark won't let him have an Initiative Defender's team, he'll just buy his own. Plus Dr. Strange and the Son of Satan have a chat...

And we finish with the all-new Guardians of the Galaxy. Where the newly formed team attack a flying Space Church to stop it from destroying reality. Or at least a large section of it. Yes watch as Star-Lord, Adam Warlock, Drax the Destroyer, Quasar, Gamora and Rocket Raccoon fight a crazy Space Church. One that used to worship Adam Warlock, except he erased all time-lines where that happened way back when. Probably when he was God. Oh and there HQ? Knowwhere, the disembodied Celestial head floating at the edge of Space-Time. And yes that means the return of Cosmo the Psychic Commie Space Dog! I LOVE YOU COMICS!
lurkerwithout: (Reading cat)
Yeah, comics came out yesterday. But yesterday was spent napping, watching Rollins and then go out for adequete steak with the family. So comics today instead!

Starting with a comic from last week. My FLCS got another shipment of The Dresden Files #1. So of course I got that. Because it has Harry blow up a monster made from haunted meat and later punch a lion. From what I understand the comic is supposed to be a prequel to books. Carmicheal has the world's oddest bald spot...

Then I got Transformers Spotlight: Grimlock. Because, well, Grimlock. Seriously. GRIMLOCK. Yeah I'm such a nerd...

G0dland gives up Maxim's original mission. And Adam makes a last ditch effort to save his effort. Because ancient pre-time God-things. "Exile's of Iboga's own long-lost war clan, these thre were a nomadic anit-life squad, riding the Black Sun Sled! Triple-helix cell blasers ready to lay waste to hte unknown universe -- this would their final solution... Their ultimate revenge--". Dude. That is SO fucking Kirby-tastic. Why couldn't Casey have been brought on to "fix" the New Gods?

*sigh*

Oh well, over to a new Dynamo5. Where the kids take on Widowmaker & her gang of super-thugs. And hold their own in their first team vs. team brawl. Unless the fight against their other half-sister & her mom counts as a team fight. Maybe...

And in Fables? In Fables Cindy is total bitch-rod bad-ass awesome. Do not mess with Cinderella. She will fuck your shit up...

The next issue of Power Pack: Day One continues the Pack's origin. I love Katie.

"Cause you know what's better than a free pony?"
"Free MAGIC pony."

Plus Katie then explains the principles of Conservation of Energy and Thermodynamics with the help of Colleen Coover's always awesome art...

And we'll end with X-Men First Class, where the universe is threatened. And the only ones who help the X-Men stop this threat? The Continuiteens! Plus MORE COOVER. Drawing the SECRET ORIGIN OF THE CONTINUITEENS!

I had a lengthy angry post planned about a certain comics blogger and faulty statistic user. But they're not worth the hassle or the arguement that would ensue...

Instead I will just concentrate on things that are awesome.

1. Ami is Awesome. Yay!

2. Hellcat written and drawn by the Immonen's is awesome.

3. Space Raccoons with guns fighting cosmic evil is awesome.

4. Books about con artists turned pirates? Awesome!

5. Hardcover editions + Robot assassin + complete series = Awesome.

6. The Queen of Jordan doing a v-blog on YouTube? You bet thats an awesome...

Doomsday

lurkerwithout: (Puss in boots)
Back from seeing it in one of my rare trips to the theater. And considering that the price for a drink has gone up, while the sizes have gone down? They're going to continue being rare...

Anyways, Doomsday. The set up is that a horrible plague sweeps over Scotland and so the entire country is quarantined, with the English rebuilding a new 30' metal version of Hadrian's Wall with auto-cannons. But when the deadly virus breaks out in the slums of London, the government has to send their most bad-ass one eyed maverick cop in to catch a survivor. They give her a crew of soldiers and doctors and a 48 hour time limit to find a cure or London is dooooomed...

And once beyond the Wall they face cannibal punkers and evil Rennies. And the Death Bus. And an exploding gimp. And punker mosh pit/cannibal bbq...

It was pure awesome. My roommate disagrees. He hates it. But then he likes National Treasure and Nightwatch so his taste is in question...
lurkerwithout: (boxing kitten)
Sadly the Colbert version is not online anymore.

Conan's:

Stewart's:
lurkerwithout: (Rocket Raccoon)
Marvel to launch new Guardians of the Galaxy post Annihilation: Conquest. They're being cagey about who might be on this team of Avengers-in-space until A:C finishes and we see who lives, except to say that Nova won't be a member. Me I know who I want on board...

*crosses fingers*

Rocket Raccoon and space lesbians, Rocket Raccoon and space lesbiants, c'mon talking raccoon with rocket skates and Moondragon/Quasar. Yes I know Moondragon's dead right now. So? Not like she hasn't been dead before...

Astronomy Picture of the Day

Explanation: Follow the handle of the Big Dipper away from the dipper's bowl, until you get to the handle's last bright star. Then, just slide your telescope a little south and west and you might find this stunning pair of interacting galaxies, the 51st entry in Charles Messier's famous catalog. Perhaps the original spiral nebula, the large galaxy with well defined spiral structure is also cataloged as NGC 5194. Its spiral arms and dust lanes clearly sweep in front of its companion galaxy (right), NGC 5195. The pair are about 31 million light-years distant and officially lie within the boundaries of the small constellation Canes Venatici. Though M51 looks faint and fuzzy in small, earthbound telescopes, this sharpest ever picture of M51 was made in January 2005 with the Advanced Camera for Surveys on board the Hubble Space Telescope.

Wonderfalls

FINALLY got around to watching my Wonderfalls: The Complete Viewer Collection. Now I have to go hunt down the FOX executives responsible for its cancellation and feed them to wild dogs. Not out of hate. But out of love. Love for hearing them scream the soulless, blinded by short term gain, stupid fucking bastards...

Some people of course will say that a spree of murder/torture is an overreaction for the cancellation of a television show. Fie on them!
