New Comics Day 5/29
May. 30th, 2008 05:33 pmGot my comics today, since yesterday I had zero dollars. Though I'm pretty sure I missed the Firebreather relaunch dammit. And though Proof wasn't on the email reminder of my pull list, it got pulled for me. Though I seem to have missed the last issue. Again. I swear I can only seem to get every other issue. Though I do see a trade of the first 5 issues is due soon. So I can order that and be partly caught up. Anyway, apparently big game cryptoid hunter dude from last time some how has taken over the Lodge so he can eat all the modern legends. Or something. Anyway there are several characters who I think got more development in the issues I've missed. But you do get to see a crazy lady get wanged with a frying pan by a oracular demon. So thats cool...
Then its the next issue of Power Pack: Day One. The newly empowered Pack kids vs. the Snark! I love how the Snark hatchlings react to Katie the same she did to Whitey. "Alien?" "MAGIC Alien!" Also another Van Lente/Coover science lesson. With Julie demonstrating the concept of Velocity. Its like a free bonus awesome to go with a full plate of awesome...
And a new X-Men: First Class, concentrating on Warren. Who's aunt appears to be Laura Croft. With less shooting of endangered animals. And a Coover back-up with a Lil' version of Angel. SOOOO CUTE!
Then I decided to start picking up Van Lente's Wolverine: First Class. Which is basically the Wolverine & Kitty Fun-Time Adventure Hour. In the first issue they explore a small town with a mysterious new mutant's power has gone out of control. The second has Kitty trying to make nice with Logan by throwing him a surprise birthday party. That way he'll drive the X-Limo so she and her friends can go to the Dazzler concert. And even has an appearance by Mariko. I miss Mariko. Oh and Sabretooth. That jerk. And then this month's issue has the High Evolutionary and the Knights of Wundagore. I love how many current writer's get that so much of super-hero comics is just crazy goofy if you think about it. And so they embrace that...
Next its the first of the Pfiefer fill in issues on Blue Beetle before Sturges takes over. A nice enough comic with Jaimie and Traci trying to have a normal date only to be interrupted by demonic attacks. Cute cover. A decent issue that MOSTLY has some of the Roger's magic to it. Though I dislike the last couple pages where Jaimie is all secretly mopey...
And we finish with Fables and the start of the war against the forces of the Adversary. The Fabletown & Arabic Fables begin with a wooden flying ship loaded with bombs to take out the Adversary controlled Gates to the Mundy world. Plus Briar Rose in waiting to ambush the Emperor and his command staff at the first opportunity...
