Before I get to this light week of comics, I just have to say. The percentage of people dressing up their babies in order to score free candy was pretty high. I'd say for shame on that practice except it leads to cute babies dressed as Batman. Which is very daaaaaaw...

This week I finally got the latest Godzilla: the Half-Century War. With the international anti-monster force given a devastating loss during a '75 multi-monster battle in Ghana. With Big G going all out against Mothra, Rodan, Battra, Megalon, Ebirah and Hedorah. I only know a three of those. And thats if I'm right in thinking Hedorah is the Smog Monster. Also Stokoe's Rodan is more dragon-looking then dinosaur-looking...

And the only book I got from this week, issue nine of the second volume of Fatale. And things don't go well for poor Suzy as she gets caught by the Hollywood cult. And Miles begins to wonder about who, or what, Jo really is...

And now I have to go and figure out who to give all this left-over candy to...
lurkerwithout: (Sleep now)
Spent the evening at my friend Kevin's helping him and his wife hand out candy. And watching Kevin break out a reflective vest and orange hazard flag and flashlight to try and get the traffic of cars on his street to slow down. I have no idea why he would have a reflective vest and hazard flag. Then after they ran out of candy we watched The Host. One family! Hunted by their government! Seeking the deadly DEATH FISH!

The Dark Horse Book of Witchcraft by many and various, Edited by Scott Allie

A truly clever man would have noticed ahead of time that there would be a Sunday Trade post on Halloween. And maybe then posted about Japanese students turned corpse-related mystery solvers. Or perhaps the story of the night a certain samurai bunny fought a legion of ghosts and monsters. And what about the tale of a pair of undead lad detectives at a girl's boarding school? But mostly that, since I'd already covered the first trade I'd picked up another Nocturnals trade by Brerton...

Oh well. Luckily, my shelves are deep with books and other appropriately spooky collections are available. Like The Dark Horse Book of Witchcraft, an anthology of short comics and written word on the theme of witches...

The three stand-outs for me from this collection are "Mother of Toads", a short story by Clark Ashton Smith and illustrated by Gary Gianni. A true horror classic in all senses of the word. Then a short Hellboy story, "The Troll Witch" by Mike Mignola. Assisted on colors by Dave Stewart and letters by Clem Robins. And lastly a Beasts of Burden Hill story, "Unfamiliar" by Evan Dorkin and Jill Thompson. I so love those occult battling pets...

[Poll #1637907]

Poll currently broken. I'll have to fix it in a bit...

Ok, replacement poll up...
lurkerwithout: (SP Me)
Sadly, this week, there won't be a Friday Poll. And I think I'll be taking a break from doing them for little while. Mostly because I'm really running out of ideas for them. Going over the last ten I realized I did ones using Bad Super-Hero Concepts TWICE. And thats over a period of only two months. So no more until sometime in the new year. Though I'll probably do a poll on Christmas. Because I love Christmas...

But as to what I've learned:

1) Bad Super-Hero Idea (Take 1): The Oozing, Weeping Plague Sore Kid...

2) The most popular way to help kill zombies? If you had to borrow a gun from Firefly's Jayne...

3) Best Dracula? Bela!

4) Scariest ghosts are those made up of your own dead dreams...

5) Favorite Halloween treat? Mini-candy bars...

6) For destroying my Nemesis, its a tie between Karl Rove's brain in a robot alligator or a zombie-cyborg made from my roommate. Probably be best to use both then...

7) Most popular Sci-Fi/Classic Novel mash-up movie idea was Dumas' The Three Rockateers...

8) Bad Super-Hero Idea (Take 2): Drunken, Racist, Suburban Housewife Woman. Plus a bonus poll result showing the Comte de Mink is the most popular of the Weasel Lineage of Heroes...

9) Three way tie for showing them all. So obviously that means the Not-Mad-At-All Plan will involve a robot army, otter pups, 18 million tiny whirling devices, poison frogs, a selection of roses, a riddle fiendish in its intricacies, passages from King Lear, the power of STEAM and the ghost of Bud Abbott...

10) Another tie, as the best way of gaining revenge from beyond the grave is either your own re-animated corpse or bees. Maybe the revenant can spit bees?

And now the TRULY important Halloween poll:

[Poll #1288540]

[Poll #1077798]

A couple of these already ARE part of my parody super-hero world. And one is based on a character a friend once rolled up at random for an MSH game...
