Finally got all the bits for the new computer (an iBuypower with new wireless thingy and bigger, newer Acer monitor) working.  Also, 28 dollars for four feet of hdmi cable?  Yeesh...

Got the old computer basically working again and even salvaged most of my stuff (old writing, art, cat pictures, etc). But I can't get the computer to acknowledge my wireless receiver thingy from any port. Extra aggravating since I found I'd saved the drivers for it on a flash drive from the last time I had to reload everything. So for now to use the computer online involves having it hooked directly into the modem by a short cord. So its in the living room. And using it from the couch gives me such a crick in the neck. So while I could just go and get another wireless thinger for like thirty bucks, I don't trust the longevity of my current PC. So I'll probably be splitting the tax return between a new computer and the cat's yearly vet visit...

The brother got my internet connection for the pc back up and running. It took several hours and many beers, but I no longer need surf from the Kindle...

The home pc is basically working. But I need to figure out how to reinstall the drivers for the wireless router thingy. Without being able to go online and download drivers. Plus the LJ app for my kindle has decided to sort of load into a holding pattern. So posting will continue to slow...

On the plus side the "new" box can run Planescape though now it won't go past the start screens for Fallout or Fallout 2...

The home computer is currently a bit..mostly dead.  So no adorable animal pics this week.  :(

My computer is now refusing to recognize my Kindle today. I just transferred a pile of books from one to the other on Sunday. And now I get non-recognized USB device on it. The only change between then and now was a automatic Windows update...

Gee, I wonder what might be causing the problem?

My internet connection has been fritzing out all day, so nothing to post while I try to play catch up while things seem to be working...

Reinstalling all my crap is such a gorram, frelling, insert-other-fake-nerd-swears. And I haven't even got to the large number of eMusic albums. At least I was never an iTunes type so it won't actually cost me anything BUT time to get them all back...

So my old computer was suffering both BSOD and boot errors. So rather than spend a couple hundred dollars fixing it, I spent a few hundred more dollars replacing it. Which means I've got to spend a lot of my vacation reinstalling stuff like firefox and open office and my popcap games and what not. And I've lost all my porn. :(

On the other hand, old computer:
Windows XP
AMD athlon 64
3700+ processor
2.2 GHz/2000 MHZ/1 MD LZ cache
512 MB DDR SD RAM/ Dual channel capable
200 GB Hard drive
nVidia Geoforce G100 GPU w/ PCI express slot
9 in 1 memory card reader
DVD +/- RW Multiformat double later
10/100 Mbps Ethernet LAN
56K ITU v.02 ready fax/modem

New computer:
Windows 7
Intel Core 2 Quad Q8300 processor
4 GB DDR2
Integrated Intel GMA X4500 Graphics
750 GB Hard drive
DVD +/- RW SuperMulti
all kinds of ports and stuff

I don't know what a lot of that means but I'm guessing many of my low virtual memory and slow-down problems will be gone...

Now to get to redownloading my pornmusic...

Joy!

Happiness is, after a BSOD computer crash and the computer not wanting to boot, finally managing to poke the F2-boot options into making the computer start up again. So I don't have to restore from the system recovery disc. Meaning my porn folder is saved!

I like the loading messages. I'd like them more if my computer wasn't running annoyingly laggy, but still...

Back online. Apparantly a usb cord and an ethernet cord are two entirely different things and one really sucks...

Anyone know where I can find a free version of Microsoft Word? My computer's version of Microsoft Office was only good for 3 months and I'm not spending 150 dollars so I can type things up with a spell-checker...

Dial-up sucks. A lot. Really. A whole freaking lot...

Internet was down all morning. Just got it working again. The COX automated help line works pretty well. At least for simple problems. Of course I did have to shout "continue" at it in various tones to get the voice thingy to comprehend me...

I've finished moving all my old dl'd music, docs, images and pdfs from the old computer to this one. And it only took about 250 MB. I probably COULD have just used regular discs rather mom's usb pocket drive thingy. This was quicker though. Tomorow I begin ripping my cd collection. Again...

Stupid home internet connection crapped out on me sometime this afternoon. It better be working tomorow afternoon. Otherwise I'll have to be futilely annoyed again...

Testing out the dvd player with "Miller's Crossing", one of finest pieces of cinema in exsistance. And it looks and sounds sweet.

*hugs flat panel*

Seriously, this is definately my favorite Coen Brothers movie. Stellar acting, as close to perfect cinematography as you're going to get and the Coen's at the top of their game. Hell the A.D. on the movie is freaking Sam Raimi...

Damn, but I have a lot of webcomics. Thank Tod for feeds or I'd never get this done...

My new computer is up and running. I've still got to customize a bunch of stuff, delete or turn off various autoloaded programs, redownload other things (like mIrc if I'm going to game tomorrow) and transfer over all my word docs, image files and music from the old machine. Then get someone to help me install Firefox so I don't have to depend on IE...

Oh and replace the mouse. I ain't going back to a trackball.

But for now, yay new computer!
