The "new" Accord started overheating on the drive over to work. And by started I mean it was pegged at over the temp gauge's red line when I noticed it. I'm hoping I got it pulled over and off before anything else broke from that. Radiator seemed ok, had oil. Step-father thinks it may be the water pump. So to the mechanic it will go in the morning. Anyone know how much a water pump normally runs?
The "new" car was finally ready tonight and I drove it into work. '94 2-door Honda Accord with a little over 120K miles on it. Apparantly the reason it took them so long to figure out what the problem with the brakes was, had to do with it being the back brakes. Also the the check brakes light stays on, but I've been told thats because the sensors aren't right from all the repairs still and not to worry about it...
Other than that it seems to run fine. Radio works, a/c is good, brakes and headlights and so forth all good...
Still waiting on the title to register it, but I've got a 30-day temp certificate up so I'm good for a bit. I also need to get a back-up key made for it. Anyone know if I have to go to a Honda dealership for that or just any locksmith?

Not much going on
Mar. 23rd, 2009 04:52 pmWent out and hit Bookstar earlier. Found copies of The Yiddish Policeman's Union and the Parker Sunny Randall book I was missing in thier discounted piles. Hardbacks for seven bucks is always nice. Family is home, so I don't need to be dogsitting anymore. I have SOME hope that the Honda is FINALLY ready to be picked up and I'll be done with cadging rides or borrowing my mom's truck. Glad I went out for more books since I ended up finishing both of Jasper Fforde's Nursery Crime books today. I wish he'd put out his next book. The new series or a new NC or Thursday Next...
Am at the moms house on her laptop. Just waiting for the Accord to be ready to be picked up. Hopefully today. Mostly because I want to go home and change since I'm still wearing clothes from last night. But there is a chance we'll have dinner with my brother who's in town (and by town I mean Goodyear) for his job this week...
Also I'm very glad I'm at the Phoenix hotel tonight and not the Scottsdale hotel. Will have a great deal fewer "Irish" drunks to deal with tonight happily...
Need to put on some music also. Carly Simon's "You're so lame" is stuck in my head. GET OUT SONG ABOUT BAD BREAKUP! OUT! OUT!

Family Debt
Mar. 14th, 2009 06:28 pmWell it looks like the step-father has found me a replacement car. A 90-something Honda Accord with 100K on it for only 2300. So right now I just owe my family 3 grand. So thats..well not good. But better than being without transportation and stuck in Mesa for an extra three months. Still could use a new roommate, though I can afford (just barely) to live on my own...
Alas poor Camry
Mar. 13th, 2009 03:16 pmMy car is dead. The mechanic does not feel its worth the cost to make road worthy again. My step-father is looking to try and find me a new vehicle. But I liked my car. It was a Toyota Camry 4-door with a hatchback. Like a merging of a station wagon with a standard Camry. It could haul lots of stuff and got great gas mileage. And now its dead...
Dammit.
Dammit.
Well fuck then
Mar. 13th, 2009 09:09 amMy plans for the day have changed. Originally they included the cooking and consumption of eggs with yummy ham. Instead I had some cold pizza before going back out to wait for a tow truck. See right as I got to the nearest intersection to my apartment complex, just as I went into that left turn at the arrow, my car started making horrible horrible noises. And shaking. So I pulled to the side of the road and stopped. And got out and looked under the car and around it but saw nothing being dragged, no flat tires. So I started it again. And going into drive, a shakin' and a rattlin' and all kinds of commotion. So, with the help of a couple friendly guys working on the intersection, pushed the car into the nearest parking lot...
So walk home, get the roommate to drive over to get the groceries I left in the car. Call the family so they can set up things with our mechanic, call AAA for the tow, then wait for the driver. When he gets there he looks at the piece of car that I found after pushing it. Its black and kind of plastic and like a spirally funnely looking thing. His guess was something off the steering column or possibly the wheel base. I'm just hoping it won't TOTALLY wipe me out money wise for the next week or so...
Oh and that it can fixed and road worthy again by tonight so I don't have to try and borrow a ride for work for the next two nights. Blah! Comics then bed...

Everything happens in groups
Aug. 3rd, 2007 06:20 pmSo I get my car registration done. Even pay for two years instead of one to put off having to do emmissions again any time soon. And so what happens as I leave the DMV? Brake light comes on. By the time I get back to the house they're totally squish with no resistance. So I've got to round up a ride to and from work for tonight, and if I can't find a place open on Saturday, for tomorrow as well. Hopefully the fix won't be TOO expensive...
Come back money! All my pretty money...
Anyways I've been spending a lot this week. Deposits on the apartment, deposits for electricity, replacing the battery which died WHILE getting the car emissions' tested (which it JUST failed, being about .15 over on NOX). Oh and of course paying for apartment supplies and various pre-ordered books and other entertainment expenses...
Oh well, most of that is why I was saving towards this summer anyway...

Car? Why you no go car?
Jun. 29th, 2007 09:31 amMy car would not start this morning. It made evil clicking noises at me. So I had to wait for the AAA battery guy. He cleaned all the yuck off my battery. Then glared at it, because a Toyota Camry Wagon manages to have damn near everything be non-standard from a Camry. But eventually we got the car to make with the go. He thinks its MOSTLY the thingys that connect the battery to the cables that draw the power. But the battery is at LEAST a year and a half old (how long I've had the car), with the average life of a car battery in Phoenix being 2 years. Hopefully its not the rest of the cables. Or the starter. Or the alternator. It would be nice if this stays under $200...
Also last night was full of idiots. One of whom called the police to harass one of the other idiots. So. It was a less than fun night in many ways. Now for sleep...

My filthy car is leaking oil like a son-of-a-bitch. Now I'll have to pay someone to figure out why and fix it before I can do emissions/tags next month. Plus of course getting some more oil and leak stoppy stuff later today. I don't like spending money on the car. Its money I could be spending on pornography...
Minor glitches
Nov. 29th, 2005 04:15 pmMy car is going back in the shop, again, tomorrow. Where I'll get to borrow money from my family, again, to pay for the making it run...
My cable modem has been acting wonky on and off all week...
My job situation is still at the "maybe we'll give you more hours, maybe not, who's to say" stage...
I have no idea what the current situation is with keeping my Saturday game going...
And I really, really, REALLY want an oreo. Check that. A fucking PACK of doublestuff...

Someone get me a gun
Sep. 28th, 2005 06:30 amSo the car it drove fine last night. But this morning? I get home and hiss, sploosh and leaking all over the damn place.
The only thing I did different on the way TO work was stop to get food. So apparantly my car will run fine, provided I don't attempt to go for longer than around 10 minutes.
I hope I can get ahold of Brendan later, so I can still go see the preview for "Serenity"...
