New Comics Day
Feb. 13th, 2008 07:30 pmWhy have both the evil sub-directors out to fuck with Brit been black? I mean, if this one wasn't EXTRA evil, advocating the enforced impregnation of women to create super-soldiers it might not bug me. But he really is EXTRA evil...
Oh well, over to Dark Horse and the slightly less evil creepy Russian girls and Nazi vampire experiments in BPRD 1946. Really thats all that should be needed to sell the book. Creepy little girls and post-War Nazi labs filled with vampires...
Sadly the Nova annual is kind of lacking. Its uses the old "bad guy tries to kill/eliminate good guy by putting him in dream state" trope. Though it does sort of retell Richie's origin again. Then it basically finishes and moves things back to where they will be in the next regular issue. Kind of a waste really and I expected more from Abnett and Lanning. How about using the annual to fill in some of the missing story pieces from the original Annihilation story arc? Or even some Nova Corps type stuff PRE-Annihilation?
DMZ is another one-shot character issue, this time on Free State deserter Soames. Was that the guy running the parks area? I really can't remember right now...
And as 100 Bullets sets up for its final year, we get some more mysterious deaths, Minutemen and their "allies" moving around for mysterious reasons and colorful walk-on characters who may or may not mean anything. I don't want to call anything this..fine..same old, same old. Though it kind of is. But its done so damn well it doesn't matter...
Busiek delivers another one-shot for Astro City, this time Astro City: Beautie. Which looks into the origin and story of the heroic demi-living doll...
And my comics shop FINALLY got my Cover Girl trade. They had to order the damn thing like three times to get it to ship. But worth it. An excellent freshman work from Church & Cosby as co-writers. There are a few times in the final scenes where I have trouble following the action, but otherwise good work from artist Santolouco...

Electioneering!
Feb. 13th, 2008 08:25 pmFriend
dunkelza is running for the MA state senate. Go and ask him difficult questions as to why he should get your vote. If you're eligible to vote for him. Or if you enjoy asking people political questions...
