More "Fear Itself" tie-ins still. With the Thunderbolts chasing after Norse Snake Fear God Thing-ized team-member Juggernaut. And Heroes for Hire has Paladin and Gargoyle attempting to stall a Fear-ized Ben Grimm, while Shroud and Elektra are tasked with dealing with some of the Raft escapees. Both are also using different artists. Thunderbolts has some clean, basic work from artist Declan Shalvey and colorist Frank Martin Jr. In fact I think I recognize Shalvey from some Dark Horse "Hellboy" related books. H4H on the other hand has Kyle Hotz who is just a white-hot mess of ugly character designs...

iZombie seems to be using its shambling zombie infestation as a means to bring together its various characters. Both the original group of monsters and monster hunters, as well as the supernatural secret agents of V.E.I.L. people...

And finally Secret Six seems to be starting up a major ramp up for Bane's character, with him leading the multitude of members of the "Six" into an all-out war with the Bat-Family. Just in time for the book to disapear during the Flashpoint-reboot and for most likely everything they accomplish to be rendered meaningless. Of course that could allow Simone to go for something REALLY shocking with the story since it's probably going to be erased in the fall anyway...

Shorted at my shop again. This time on the new Empowered one-shot. Now I have to wait a week, maybe two for them to get me a copy. This is growing..annoying. I really don't want to have to scan the upcoming month or two's releases just to make sure I can remain loyal to my chosen store and still get the book I want...

I'm also a bit disappointed by Knights of the Dinner Table again. Other than a nice bit involving Nitro trying to get his daughter into gaming the various strips mostly feel like they're meandering and not advancing the major plot lines...

And a final bit of disappointment in that Annihilators turns out to be a 4-issue mini, meaning only one story arc for both half-books. Though I have to say the Skottie Young cover with Groot and Rocket Raccoon is just crazy sweet...

No seriously, look at that )

I'd have more to say about the events in Scalped and the Unwritten but I'm too distracted by those stupid mini-comic ads for the "Super 8" movie. I actually have some interest in the movie, but those damn things are such a giant story break to all the books they've been shoved into...

Savage Dragon continues to follow Malcolm Dragon, with this issue also featuring new villain Thunderhead, son of Skullface...

I was really expecting comics to be delayed this week. But I guess comics don't care about veterans or something? And its a fairly large pull week as well...

Starting with a new Criminal arc, "The Last of the Innocent". Which I swear looks to be a noir version of that What if Archie Married Veronica comic...

And Avengers Academy is one of those .1 new reader friendly issues. With the kids going out and looking up what happened to the other teens recruited by Osborne. The ones who didn't make the Avengers, High Risk of Super-Villainy list...

Heroes for Hire concludes its Spider-Man guest spot with a helping hand from Santana. And a return by Misty to active work...

Thunderbolts finish up their Middle East zombie infenstation while their prison "home" gets a visit from a "Fear Itself" tie-in. Leading to yet another mass break-out...

Leaving Marvel for DC, the Secret Six return from their visit to Hell. Where they've learned to be a family. A fucked up headcase family...

iZombie reveals that ancient mummy dudes really love skeeball. Plus a look at secret agent monster agency V.E.I.L's ongoing missions. Where we get to meet the Chief of said agency...

And gangsters vs. vampires vs. aliens Turf wraps up. With a super-busy, gigantic, piles of casulties final brawl. Still too much text though out what was more an interesting book than a good one...

For some reason Thunderbolts is split between two pencilers this month. Can't say I care much for the pages by Declan Shalvey. Or maybe its his inks. Otherwise you've still got the A team at the haunted castle while the B team is being recruited...

Heroes for Hire continues with a Spider-Man guest spot. Making me wonder if he's switches back and forth between his classic red & blues and his new FF whites. And Spidey foes, the Sinister Six show up in Avengers Academy. Can't say I think much of the redesigns for Doc Ock and Electro. And villain Sandman is just so bland...

Darkwing Duck and company bring an end to the threat of Duckthulu. But at what cost? Also nice "Days of Future Past" parody/homage cover...

The Li'l Depressed Boy finishes up its first arc and makes sure that LDB continues to have a reason for his name...

And finally we've got KoDT Black Hands 2011 Special. With Pete's old west/fantasy mash-up running into the brick wall of the tactical role-player...

So my store finally managed to actually get in an issue of Proof: Endangered. Just as the mini-series ends. Oh well, at least they also had the first couple issues so there is that. I do have to say I like the sharper definition in the art. Less murky from the original run...

The Secret Six are still in Hell. And I'm still waiting for the big Gotcha, 'cause I just do not buy that Apokalyptians would end up in regular Hell. I mean the management has enough constant turnover without mixing in Darkseid or really any of his minions...

The Annihilators continue to deal with the fall-out from the return of the Dire Wraiths, though it looks like someone else may be manipulating the situation from the shadows. And I'm not sure how I feel about DnA retconning the original Rocket Raccoon mini-series the way they do in the back-up...

Avengers Academy Giant-Size by Paul Tobin has a team-up between non-team team the Young Allies and Academy kids as both groups are targeted by the assassin Arcade. Which leads to the latest Avengers Academy where the two groups and some of the Initiative grads throw a capes prom...

Misty and Paladin work to get the whole Heroes for Hire idea back on track, going after another shipment of the Atlantean drug Hook. And getting some help from a friendly neighborhood wallcrawler...

The latest iZombie acts as a great new jumping on point. Managing to drop the 4-1-1 on the various characters and plot lines in an enjoyable way...

And finally the second issue of Mouse Guard: The Black Axe. With sea journeys and sea monsters and drunken sea captains. Arrr!

A fairly heavy haul to start off a new month with over a half-dozen titles from my pull coming in. Starting with a Man-Thing centered issue of Thunderbolts with a guest appearance by sorceress Jennifer Kale who is looking to spring her old friend from the super-slammer...

Then we've got the first issue of Annihilators where the proto-team meets with a potential new member in the Space Knight Ikon. Whose timing is good since an old threat re-emerges. Also included is a "Rocket Raccoon & Groot" back-up, wonderfully drawn by Timothy Green II...

More Abnett and Lanning on Heroes for Hire with this issue concentrating on the captive Misty Knight and the VR-dreamscape the Puppetmaster is keeping her in...

And then some Avengers Academy with a brief look at some of the kids' super-hero classes, followed by a trip to Stamford...

Still Marvel, but their Icon imprint with the next Incognito: Bad Influences. Where Zak continues to try and infiltrate his old life but keeps having problems because of the whole no-longer-a-sociopath thing. Like not being able to enjoy a simple pit fight involving drugged out and cybered-up toddlers...

The Secret Six actually start a story arc thats not connected to another series. With a visit back to a certain mystic card from the first arc of the current volume...

And then a Darkwing Duck annual. First a Quackerjack tale of dolls, MMORPGs and redemption. And then a brief tale of time travel and turtles...

Finally a new issue of the Tick, with the titular hero opening a pet-sitting service for super-heroes. Which includes a pet dinosaur named Scary Chicken. And a super-caprybara named Cap'n Bara. I love Benito Cereno's gift for names...
