Timothy Spall plays Albert Pierrepoint a executioner in Britain during and after World War II. After becoming known for his speed and efficiency in killing prisoners he is picked to hang the German war crimes prisoners at the end of the war. This brings him out into the public eye, where he is first celebrated for putting down Nazi war criminals and then reviled as the face of capital punishment. While the main focus is Spall, Juliet Stevenson also turns in an excellent performance as his wife who tries to remain oblivious to her husband's main career...
