I myself am not taking part in National Novel Writing Month, given that I'm more interested in just getting SOME writing done. But I know several people on my friends list are likely going to try for it. So I want to wish them all the best of luck with meeting their goals...

Polished up the intro for another of the Team's founders. Just one more to do, Public Defender originally named LawyerMan...

Sadly, I think there are only TWO books on this list that aren't rereads. Hopefully I'll be able to afford to hit the used book store this coming month...

October 3rd: Tamora Pierce - Protector of the Small: The omnibus of Pierce's Lady Knight books. I'm trying to think of a fantasy series where they have a military school that doesn't involve hazing as a major plot point. Can't think of one...

October 4th: Janet Evanovich - Ten Big Ones: 10th Plum book. Steph becomes the target of a street gang after id'ing one of their members robbing a store...

October 5th: Evanovich - Eleven on Top: 11th book. Steph quits being a bounty hunter, only find its not her JOB that brings the crazy...

October 6th: Harry Turtledove - The Misplaced Legion. First book in the Videssos/Legion series. A Roman legion is magically sent to another universe, where they take work as a mercenary company...

October 7th: Turtledove - An Emperor for the Legion: 2nd book in the series. The Romans take part in the power struggle for the Imperial throne of Videssos...

Evanovich - Twelve Sharp: 12th Plum book. One of the two men in Steph's life, Ranger has a double. A crazy, stalker-y double...

October 8th: Evanovich - Lean Mean Thirteen: Latest Plum book. Steph's ex, slimeball lawyer Dickie Orr gets thrust back into her life when he's linked to a series of murders...

October 9th: Turtledove - The Legion of Videssos: The Romans continue trying to help stabilize the Empire, while several members go off on a diplomatic mission...

October 10th: Turtledove - Swords of the Legion: The conclusion to the series, with the Roman's commander, the Empire and their allies moving to the final confrontation with the evil wizard Avshar and his armies...

October 13th: Jim Butcher - White Night: Most recent Dresden Files novel. Harry and his friends deal with several groups of White Court vamps preying on magically talented women...

October 15th: Pierce - Trickster's Choice: 1st of two "2nd Generation" Tortal books, dealing with the youngest child of Alanna the Lioness, who is chosen by a god to help bring about a revolution...

October 16th: Pierce - Trickster's Queen: 2nd book as the Trickster God's plans against his siblings move ahead at a rapid pace. Also there is a moment late in the book where the Trickster shows why gods are bastards...

October 17th: Greg Costikyan - Another Day, Another Dungeon: Start of Costikyan's STILL unfinished trilogy of fantasy rpg parodies. A group of adventurers recover a mysterious magical statue worth a fortune on their first dungeon crawl. One that has more than few bad guys looking to acquire it...

October 18th: Robert Parker - Melancholy Baby: One of Parker's non-Spenser books. Instead following female detective Sunny Randall as she investigates a girl's parentage...

October 19th: Richard Brooks - World War Z: A book that actually lives up to the hype and many positive reviews. Various mini-stories from the survivors of humanity's war against the zombies. I would love to see HBO or Showtime do a miniseries on this, and I'm NOT that big a fan of the zombie sub-genre...

October 21st: Costikyan - One Quest, Hold the Dragons: The wilderness and town portions of the campaign. C'mon Costikyan finish the series up already. Its been over a decade...

October 23rd: Elizabeth Moon - Command Decision: Most recent of Moon's Vatta's War series. Ky continues to attempt to build her multi-system anti-pirate fleet, Rafe goes to investigate whats wrong with his communications conglomerate family and the rest of the Vatta's try to rebuild either their family, the family business or the Slotter Key government...

October 24th: Elmore Leonard - Killshot: A pair of killers go up against a steel worker and his real estate agent wife after they botch up an extortion scheme. One of Leonard's older books and as always very character driven. Along with Freaky Deaky its one I'm surprised hasn't been made into a movie...

October 27th: A. Lee Martinez - Gil's All Fright Diner: A werewolf ex-trucker and his vampire buddy have to save the world from a teen sorceress and the Old Ones. Its hella funny and has a scene with zombie cattle...

October 29th: Joel Rosenberg - Hour of the Octopus: 2nd in Rosenberg's D'shai books, a quasi-Eastern fantasy setting. A kind of Oriental fantasy/Detective mash-up. I wish Rosenberg would write another of these...

October 21st: Elaine Cunningham - Thornhold: A Forgotten Realms novel centered around harper agent and treasure hunter Bronwyn. While I like the book and the characters, it does have one of the things that always annoys me when I see it in books that supposedly tie-in with 1st and 2nd edition D&D. Paladin's are ALWAYS dicks. Which makes NO DAMN SENSE. People who ALL have a minimum Charisma of 17 should be more likeable. Sure they can be pompous and heavy handed. But you should still WANT to like them...

Total books for month: 21
