Nightwatch
Mar. 5th, 2007 01:20 amThe next time I see Brendan I'm going to smack him. This was...gah. It starts out ok enough. Goofy medieval flashback with expository voice-over. Sets up for a Modern Horror/Fantasy setting with a Nightwatch (good supernaturals) and Daywatch (bad supernaturals) patrolling each others' community for rule breakers. Sounds cool? Sure. Except not much happens. Theres a pile of camera tricks and other attempts to artificially create a dark moodiness. Not that it needs much with the urban landscape typical in Russia. Oh yeah, this is a Russian movie...
Anyway back to the nothing really happening. You have a vamp girlfriend who wants revenge for her accidently killed vamp crook boyfriend. A mysterious kid. And a cursed woman. The last of which has no point other than to inflict most of the shots of massive numbers of crows and shit flying around a building...
And then you get to the final battle. The chapter is even called Rooftop Battle. Except all it is, is the "hero" having flashbacks to the opening fight scene. And then you get some kind of Negative Luke Skywalker rejection scene and an abrubt and UTTERLY ANNOYING LETDOWN OF AN ENDING. I'm not happy with Brendan or anyone else who recomended this thing. Not happy at all...
