It isn’t surprising that the tournament directors found Eurisko’s strategies beyond the pale. It’s wrong to sink your own ships, they believed. And they were right. But let’s remember who made that rule: Goliath. And let’s remember why Goliath made that rule: when the world has to play on Goliath’s terms, Goliath wins.

About a quarter of the way through it, I was thinking "This is very interesting, but not terribly new..." About halfway through I was thinking "Yes, yes, this is a well written piece about something I already know... but it doesn't work that way in real life, because the rules are less clearly defined and more about social convention." About a quarter of the way through, I was thinking "AH-HA! He acknowledges the weakness of his case and points out social convention and..."
