Rereading Turtledove's The Videssos Cycle, about a Roman legion that gets transported to a low fantasy world and become part of the mercenary armies of the major Empire there. And I get to a part in the 3rd book where the commander, tribune Marcus Scaurus has to discipline two rival legionairres for their feuding. The name of the two minor characters? Titus Pullo and Lucius Vorenus. Maybe those are just REALLY common Roman commoner names, but still an interesting coincidence for a book originally published in 1987...
Television
Aug. 28th, 2005 08:23 pmSo tonight was the premiere of HBO's new series "Rome". Acting was basically good. And the storylines seem good from what I can tell from the first episode. But more importantly they seemed to actually WORK at getting the historical stuff accurate. I mean for the first time someone showed the fucking legions fighting CORRECTLY. Plus its got the violence and gore levels of "The Sopranos" or "Deadwood".
I also finally managed to catch another episode of this season's "Rescue Me". Damn.
