There is probably something wrong with me
Nov. 29th, 2008 04:42 amTodays stupid, stupid Writer's Block question makes me want to read Little Women. Or watch the movie with Winona Ryder. Just so I can write horrible, horrible sistercest slash for it. Involving the blind sister. One of the girls goes blind right? I think I remember that from an episode of Friends. What? Its not like I'm planning out NonCon(but not really NonCon) slash fics with the blind sister. Probably...

Nov. 8th, 2008 05:20 amHaven't really felt like linking to Wonderella in awhile. But hell, everyone loves mocking Twillight...

Yeah, screw you, capybaras! You know what you did.

Yeah, screw you, capybaras! You know what you did.
Your challenge is to write crossover fanfiction combining Silent Hill and Psych.

Tuesday Tangents: Runaways
Jul. 15th, 2008 01:27 pmWow. So its been over a month since I did one of these. Basically because I had no decent ideas. But rereading The Thief of Time I came to the conclusion this Marvel Tangent 'verse needed some time travel themed stuff.
Dr. Alison Blaire is/was/will be a 23rd Century theoretical physicist. Her wife Dr. Betsy Braddock is/was/will be cyberneticist and mechanical engineer. Together the two built the Tachyon Slipdrive, capable of propelling a small craft backwards and forwards in time. Unfortunately for them someone else would/was/is already using a variant time travel technology, robot religious fanatics called The Stark. These zealots attacked the pair in the name of their mysterious Lord K, forcing the two to flee in their experimental craft. The two managed to find that The Stark were active throughout the time stream, exploiting their temporal advantage to further their lord's plan...
Alison and Betsy decided it was up to them to work against the menace of The Stark. Naming their craft The Runaway the pair began their campaign against the deadly robots. While thwarting The Stark's plans they also managed to recruit others to their cause. The blind 14th century "warlock" psychometric reader James Rhodes. The early 20th century Mystery Man Harold "Wasp" Hogan. And the 22nd century military cyborg Bethany Cabe, one of the UNGDF (United Nations Global Defense Forces) Crimson Dynamo Commandos...

Tuesday Tangents: The Defenders
Jun. 3rd, 2008 10:49 amThe 1930s were a dark time. The Great Depression referred not just to the financial crash, but to the general state of mind of so many who struggled with poverty. And that mental state was like a fine buffet for various super-natural predators...
It was also a time of rampant criminal activity in the USA. With the massive profits ensured by Prohibition, the various Crime Syndicates were almost legitimate in their control of politics and police. Across the nation, various masked Mystery Men did their best to oppose gangsters and protect the innocent...
In 1931 an obscure Mystery Man in Detroit named the Vision assembled a group of others from around the country. He convinced them of two things. That he'd chosen his name because he had "waking dreams" that would foretell when super-natural attacks would occur. And that even more dangerous than the criminals were these "demonic" beings drawn to feed off humanity's despair and evil. In all the Vision recruited five heroes to be part of The Defenders from across the country.
Their first mission, to stop an invasion of "shadow demons" at a Masquerade Ball thrown by New York's highest society, was a partial success. The demons were driven off but one of the guests, nineteen year old socialite Patsy Walker was killed. Or so it seemed. A few weeks later the Vision, now revealed to his allies as millionaire industrialist and philanthropist Kyle Richmond, discovered that Ms. Walker had partially survived. Trapped between life and death she would fade from visibility and tangibility depending on the hour of the day. Calling herself the Shroud she joined the group, using her unique state to help protect humanity...

- From Texas the brothers Javier and Alejandro Montayo - Los Lobos Hermanos
- From the East Coast former British lord and explorer Kevin R. Plunder - The Hobgoblin
- From New York Wyatt Wingfoot, who claimed to be the great grand-son of the god Hermes. And whose gifts of flight and speed seemed to back that assertion - Quicksilver
- And from the Southwest, the black hero Sam Wilson - The Scorpion.

Tuesday Tangents: The Champions
May. 20th, 2008 07:25 amEvery generation the monks of the Order of Atlantis go forth. They entice, trick, hire or just kidnap the greatest martial arts masters in the world. And they bring these warriors to participate in the Great Tourney of the Gates at an island in Micronesia. And when the field is down to three, then The Champions pass through the Gates to face their counterparts from the Darkforce Dimension. When they succeed then the world sees another generation of relative peace. When they fall, then evil leaders come to power and the pillars of the world shake. The last time a Darkforce Champion won thru was January of 1933...
Tuesday Tangents: Brother Voodoo
May. 13th, 2008 02:14 pmShort one this week...
Kid Santeria & the Brothers Voodoo. Four wrestlers in masks with another goofy, slightly exploitive gimmick. A stable of b-list tweeners who'll likely never headline. OR a group of hedge wizards/vampire hunters who use the constant on-the-road lifestyle of the pro wrestler as the perfect cover for hunting down the vampiric minion's of the Brazilian vampire criminal known only as The Swarm...

May. 6th, 2008 02:16 pmHey, unintended alliteration!
Ok back to a SECOND ON TIME POST IN A ROW! BUM BUM BUM!
Hobie Brown and Robert Farrell have been friends since childhood. They kept each other out of trouble growing up poor in Harlem. They worked together to get through high school. They went to M.I.T. together and both ended up with doctorates. Hobie in Mechanical Engineering and Robert in Chemical Engineering. They were best man at each other's weddings. And together they formed Bootstrap Propulsion Labs. Which eventually became Bootstrap Inc, a multi-billion dollar company that specialized in experimental engine, vehicle and alloy design.
And when they found that their ideas had been stolen by members of the secretive, neo-nazi T.H.O.R. (Tactical Harbringers of Revolution) orginization they came to a decision together. Finding that T.H.O.R. had agents throughout the local and federal government protecting them, they decided to put a stop to the racist and power-hungry group on their own. Under the umbrella of their now more secure company they formed The Wrecking Crew, an elite team of special ops with one goal. The destruction of T.H.O.R. and the ending of its threat to themselves and America.
Armed with experimental arms, equipment and vehicles from the fertile minds of Brown and Farrell, the Wrecking Crew wage a secret war against a merciless enemy. Michael "Prowl" Bell - Delta Force, Wally "Hound" Burr - Marine Force Recon, Ken "Jazz" Sansom - FBI forensic psychologist, Laurie "Ratchet" Faso - JPL Labs, Chris "Ironhide" Latta - Military Police unarmed combat trainer, Corey "Brawn" Burton - US Special Forces, Suan "Trailbreaker" Blu - Marine RECON infiltration expert, Frank "Gears" Weller.

Hah! This one will actually go up when its still Tuesday. Even if going with a DC imprint line title is kind of cheating. Still the idea I had for a version of The Authority who AREN'T A GIANT PACK OF ASSHOLES was to good in my mind to pass up. So away from from Marvel for the week. Even if I did have an interesting concept for The Prowler & Rocket Racer based on a comment by Willow about No More Black Heroes From the Ghetto as an origin...
But how to make the world's most proactive jerks into non-jerks. One. Change the era. I decided to make them a team of pulp action heros. Two. Gender-swap! Yes, thats right, boys become girls! Girls become boys! Someone becomes a robot!
The League of Secret Authority was originally founded in the 1870s by genius Nikola Tesla and Emperor Joshua Norton dedicated to protecting humanity and exploring the edges of understanding. Over the years various figures have been rumored to be attached the group. The former lawman John Reid and his Indian partner. Don Diego de la Vega. The master markswoman Annie Oakley. Even Thomas Edison confidant and master magician Harry Houdini...
But in the 1920s Tesla had retreated to his researches, turning the group over to one of his many students, the African-American engineer and inventor Adam Spicer. Spicer, a native of New Orleans, was also known by the name of his best invention, the one-man "tank" called the Great Engine. Spicer would also build and maintain the League's strange and advanced weaponry and vehicles...
Other members of the League during the 20s include:
- Lady Jane Hawkmore. British noblewoman and social chameleon. A master of disguise and capable of blending in with any gathering of people.
- The female pirate Captain Midnight and her lover the blind seer known only as the Delphine.
- Ex-military scout and tracker, the Cherokee war leader Shane Swift.
- Tesla's masterwork. The artificial man; Jack Sparks.
- The mysterious Chinese healer, sorceress and martial artist known as Doctor Qi.
( Crude pencil sketch )

Tuesday Tangents: West Coast Avengers
Apr. 23rd, 2008 07:42 amYes, I know its no longer Tuesday. Again. What can I say, I get distracted by sleep and what not and don't come up with anything. I have an idea for something using the founding Avengers, but I'm putting that on the back-burner for now. Today we'll use the core second team. And since Willowhas already made inroads into this Marvel 'verse with her Exiles and Uncanny X-Men ideas, I'll go back and add some Wild West stuff...
The Avengers of the West Coast are a band of bounty hunters for the most part. Though they've made a reputation taking down corrupt law-men, industrialists and robber barons. Throughout California and up the coast and down into Mexico, these Avengers are known as heroes for the downtrodden...
Led by Roger Stephens a former U.S. Cavalry officer. The charismatic and brave man is often simply called THe Captain. Other members of the band include the Portuguese brother and sister, Pedro de (I hope de replaces the) Vivo one of the fastest guns around and Felicidade de Ruvio rumored to be a bruxia or witch. And Clint Eagle-eye the half-Apache scout and marksman...
I'm still trying to come up with tangent versions of other Avengers from that era. Black Panther, Hercules, Beast, Wonder Man, Jocasta, Swordsman, Mantis, Vision and Falcon. At least I think Falcon was an Avenger then. All I know is the Avengers roster got huge there for awhile. Sometimes with around a dozen or more active members...

Tuesday Tangents: The Four
Apr. 16th, 2008 05:03 amYes I know its technically no longer Tuesday. Not like I was awake for most of that day. But this week we return to Marvel and take a look at an alternate Fantastic Four. But first we look at the alternate Marvel we've got going on. Most of our "super-heroes" are mystically enhanced beings, while even the more super-science and alien inspired ideas don't have much to tie them to the ideas of 4-color spandex. Much of it feels more "operate from the shadows" rather than the common costumed crime-fighting of super-hero comics. Just an observation...
The Four are a globally hunted team of killers and espionage freelancers. Led by the genius inventor and amoral monster Dr. Reed Richards. His fantastic, if evil, devices have made them the most wanted people on the planet. The others include master of stealth and disguise Sue "Invisible" Storm and her explosives expert brother Johnny "Torch" Storm. And expert pilot and brutal killer Ben "The Thing" Grimm. Grimm gained his nickname after surviving being shot down but with horrific scarring...
Though wanted by every law enforcement agency around, The Four are the personal white whale of the Advanced Ideas Squad of INTERPOL. Each member is a brilliant police officer as well as having varied and personal motivations for hunting the Four. Latverian nobleman Victor Von Doom attended the same schools as Reed. The two were at first friendly rivals. But as Richards revealed himself to have no concern for the human costs of his research, Von Doom distanced himself returning home. The good doctor had specialized in cybernetics and robotics, planning to use his genius to help the people of his small country. Latveria had become a democracy over the last several decades but their former ruling family were respected and revered. The former Contessa, Victor's mother, was a leading humanitarian. It was her work at building peace that caused her enemies to hire the Four to eliminate her. This murder drove Von Doom into joining INTERPOL and forming the A.I.S.
Other members include the Americans Bentley Wittman: surveillance (FBI) and Phillip Masters: tactics (CIA), Italian Jose Santini: counter-terrorism (Guardia di Finanza), Spaniard Esteban Corazon De Ablo: demolitions/chemical weapons disposal (National Police) and Russian Ivan Kragoff: ex-commando and small unit tactics (Arggh! Work computer sucks! How hard is it to let me look at the damn Wiki page for the Russian police so I can see what their DAMNED NAME IS?). The elite team is dedicated to the pursuit and capture of the Four at any cost...

Tuesday Tangents: Image Founders finale
Apr. 8th, 2008 01:40 pmAnd with a look at Valentino's Shadowhawk we finish with the Image Founders. Next week back to Marvel. Did someone already do Ghost Rider? I can't recall. Though I've got some vague ideas for a Fantastic Four re-imagining as well...
The Pitt Corporation. The leading edge in colonial habitats. And in the slow work of terraforming dead worlds into eventual living ones. But the Pitt Corporation has a secret. Well working on the Io colony their workers discovered a crashed alien craft. The only evidence of non-human extra-terrestrial intelligence. And for the last 10 years their scientists have been studying it in secret. The remains of the avian aliens offered few answers, but lead researcher Ben Johnstone dedicated himself to unlocking their secrets. And finally he got the breakthrough he'd been wanting, though not how he expected...
While running one of the alien artifacts through a battery of tests involving exposure to various kinds of radiation Something Happened. Ben found himself fused with the essence of the alien pilot. This fusion caused him to black out. When he woke "they" found they could listen in on the thoughts of his fellow scientists. Where he learned that his "friends" planned his eventual dissection after extensive and painful tests. Panicking Ben and The Other somehow d-shifted. Together they folded space moving them from the Venusian laboratory to Ben's childhood home on Mars...
Now Ben is on the run across the System from Pitt wetworks teams. His former employers will do anything to both capture and keep Target: Shadowhawk a secret. As for Ben/The Other. They just want to understand how the fusion happened and what caused the alien crash...

Tuesday Tangents: Image Founders part 3
Apr. 1st, 2008 03:17 pmSo even for a fanfic concept like this I still end up thinking, whats the setting like? We've established its got a post-attempted rebellion thing going on like Bab5 or Firefly. So I decided that 1. No FTL ships. They have SOMETHING that can go FTL but the mass it works on is negligible, allowing it to create a system wide information/communication network. And the tech is advanced enough so that if the gravity doesn't squish everything, humans can colonize any of the planets and moons with varying degrees of difficulty...
First up is The Wildcat. When you're flying a pirate ship against a military just HOPING for an enemy you'd best be quick, quiet and clever. Captain Jack Spartan certainly thinks he and his people are. And with the Colonial Rebellion long dead, the days of easy pickings are over. But he's got a good crew Grifter Cash can slice any data free to find their targets. Sata "Zealot" Kagi was one of the Rebellion's best pilots and will do anything that lets her hurt the establishment. And ex-military cyborgs Voodoo, Maul and Warblade provide him with all the muscle he should need to intimidate their targets. But every day the shadows get brighter and it gets harder for a crook to make a dishonest buck...
The SolNet communications network extends instant communication across the system. And within it is the EtherNet, a virtual world where data slicers and wannabes play and work. And out of the super-dense data pit that is Pitt Industries something new has emerged. Spawn is a self-aware construct. The first true A.I. Or at least that what "he" thought. But while exploring the EtherNet as Al, Spawn keeps getting cryptic hints of earlier A.Is. And of stranger things hidden in the depths of the 'Net...
