It should come as no surprise that I'm a cat person. I prefer the aloof, barely-need-humans attitude of cats over the needy, total love of dogs.
But over the years I (and my family) have owned more dogs than cats. Partly because half my family are allergic to cats and half because the rest of them are dog people.
But I find myself blinking back tears after my step-father leaves to take his dog to the vet to be put down.
Bailey was everything there is to love about a pet dog. Friendly, loyal and nearly always with that stupid big doggy grin. But she was old. 13 or 14 I think, maybe older. Her hips are shot, her eyes are going, she's got all kinds of bowel problems and the beginings of various tumors. So its for the best. Really. I hate it when someone keeps a pet alive in pain just so that THEY don't have to deal with the hurt.
But I'm gonna miss her...And she wasn't my dog dammit.
