Watching "Law & Order" and Serena's last line:

"Is this because I'm a lesbian?"

WHAT THE FUCK!?! Where the hell did that come from?

I missed the setup...

I heard the last line, but I was away from the TV set so I don't know the exact context. However, in recent weeks (after Serena announced that she was planning on leaving the DA's office) that there was some sort of internal "friction" which was causing her to go. Since Jack's character has a reputation for having affairs with his female assistants, I guess this was the scriptwriters' way of showing that for once, Jack wasn't having an affair with his law partner.

I would appreciate it if you write me a short note, listing the exact context of that final line: i.e. who was Serena talking to & what were they talking about before she dropped that bomb.

She was talking to Jack's boss whatshisface, the politician/actor guy. And he was telling her how she was right about the last case, but for the wrong reasons. And that she was too passionate and that a prosecuter needs to be cold and calculating or something. Then he fires her.

I mean Serena never seemed to fit at the D.A's office but I can't recall a SINGLE scene in any episode I've caught that hinted at the lesbian angle.

Ok here's a discussion about it over on ImDb:
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0098844/board/nest/14631176

And the boss guy is Branch (Fred Thompson)

Well, the screenwriters have usually "underplayed" the personal lives of the various characters, and delight in dropping very subtle hints regarding the what is going on in the character's private lives. For example: The screenwriters have long ago admitted that Jack McCoy & Claire Kincaid (the first female ADA on the show, played by Jill Hennessey) were having an affair... yet other than seeing them dining out together quite frequently after work (and usually discussing a case over dinner), you never really got a clear signal that their relationship was anything more than than a solid friendship... until the episode where Claire gets killed: In that episode, McCoy spends an entire day waiting for her in a bar; somehow I don't think he'd do that if they were "just friends".

Still, I will say that I've picked up on a few of certain characters "issues": someone on the IMDB board just made a comment about how he never noticed McCoy having a drinking problem, yet supposedly their was an episode or two where the issue was raised. I actually did notice that -- for about 2 years after Claire's death, every time you saw his character "after hours", he had a drink in his hand... and was usually at least a little sloshed. (Sam Waterston plays a very believable drunk.)

But I must admit -- this "lesbian" thing seems to have come in out of Left Field. But I've seen one person on IMDB suggest that the character may return to pursue a discrimination suit.

Fred Thompson rocks...:)

I always thought Jill Hennessy was the best of Jack's assistants. Of course, I would have loved to see Jack's new assistant have an ambiguous name, Jack prepping the Irish charm and it's a guy.

Alas, it's gonna be another chick. Oh well.

Next spin-off

Micheal Moriarty is supposed to be the DA in the next spin-off. If they don't kill the character they've never been adverse to bringing them back later.

Hell, Munch on SVU was a character from Homicide: Life on the Street. I always loved that in the LO/Homicide crossover you found out that Munch and Briscoe shared an ex-wife...

Munch is the man. :)

Of course, I would have loved it if him, Finn, Lenny and Greene all went over to L&O:CI and give Vincent D'Onefrio's character a massive and well-deserved beatdown...
