My city has a veteran's day parade. World War 2, Korea, Vietnam, army, marines, even the coast guard. It was a proud moment when I realized my town has a parade (I've lived in many that don't), but it was gripping when the New Hampshire National Guard (who ships out in January for a third tour) walked down Main street. Rather than being in the middle of the road, they walked down the sides, shaking their hands. These kids are ten years younger than me, and while I've known that the majority of serving men and women are my age or younger, it is an entire thing entirely to shake the hand of someone that is so obviously younger than you and be faced with the realization that two months from now he may be dead.
