The award-laden Blacksad is an excellent addition to any noir fan's library. Private eye John Blacksad fits in perfectly with the ranks of Philip Marlowe or Sam Spade. Even if he is a kitty cat. Canales masterfully uses the anthromorphic animal concept to add into the traditional noir stories. From murdered actresses to racist hate groups to Communist witch hunts. Of course the whole thing works so well because of the tremendous talent of Juanjo Guarnido. I mean look at this panel.
