The Life and Times of $crooge McDuck: vol. 1, art & story by Don Rosa, lettering & titles by Todd Klein, colors by Susan Daigle-Leach
The first half of Don Rosa's 90s series detailing the early life of the World's Richest Duck. Rosa created the history using the hints dropped in the classic Carl Barks' Uncle Scrooge comics. The story begins in 1877 Scotland with Scrooge at his first job as a shoe-shine boy. And even then he's full of determination to strike it rich, taking inspiration from the "worthless" American dime he gets paid for his first shoe-shine...
In this first volume young Scrooge goes from Scotland to America. There he signs on with an uncle's riverboat, eventually leaving that behind to become a cowboy, then a copper miner. Then he returns to save the ancestral McDuck castle. Having spent his copper mining money there he heads to Africa for another gold rush...
As Scrooge travels and gains and loses he never gives up. He knows that with hard work, a clever mind and being "thrifty" he'll eventually become a success. And nothing will stop him. Not early encounters with the Beagle Boys, James Gang, McVipers or Flintheart Glomgold. One day he'll succeed!
