For this week we go real old school and break out the Dungeons & Dragons Rules Cyclopedia. Although I think I might have the Basic Red Books boxed up somewhere as well. To start we roll 3d6 for Strength, Intelligence, Wisdom, Dexterity, Constitution and Charisma...
STR: 12 INT: 10 WIS: 14 DEX: 14 CON: 14 CHA: 13
No stellar stats, but several good ones. And since these characters are made under the assumption that I'd have an actual group, we'll also go with the normal assumption that no one but me is interested in playing the cleric. In original D&D of course cleric's have no spell-casting at 1st level, but he'll still be able to turn. Starting HD is a d6, with a +1 from CON. We'll say that the DM gives everyone max hit points to start, so my cleric will will 7. Armor Class gets a -1 bonus for DEX for a base of 9. The starting money roll is a paltry 6, so only 60 gold pieces to start with. This guy won't be beginning with heavy armor for sure. And lastly we'll make him Lawful in alignment. OD&D only having the 3 alignments to begin...
So Jervis Cragwolf. A young man from the local hills with a religious calling. From a fairly poor mining community and so couldn't afford to equip himself heavily. Sling with 30 bullets, mace, 2 sets of plain clothes, boots, belt and backpack. A plain iron holy symbol. A week's rations and a waterskin. A tinderbox and 6 torches. Which leaves him just 8 gold and 8 silver. Not even enough for a shield or leather armor. Maybe one of the other player's can lend him some funds...
