lurkerwithout: (Obey me eyes)
We all agree that I stopped aging at 28 correct? And from now on its just for bookkeeping purposes. CORRECT? Remember, 28.6. NOT THIRTY-FOUR. That would be old not young and hip which I OBVIOUSLY AM...

Heliothaumic. Kind of Victorian flavored Shadowrun. Sort of. With lesbians. And hats. The art reminds me some of Faith Erin Hicks also. Though I am saddened that they haven't actually shown a flash-back to the scene mentioned in the 4th panel. And it took me awhile to realize the most recent flashback sequence of strips was a series of flashbacks. Still elves and lesbians and a melding of cyberpunk and steampunk and also lesbians...

I think I actually prefer the remake. Don't get me wrong, Michael Caine > Mark Wahlberg in every way. And Noel Coward is a plus to any movie. But the rest of the crew is pretty cardboard (with the slight exception of Benny Hill's chubby chasing pervert computer expert) unlike the more recent version. Though both films do have memorable car chases involving mini-coopers, which I had no idea weren't a recent brand. Still the revenge + hesit plot of the '03 has more drama to it than the basic (if enjoyable) plain heist plot of the original...

A heavy pull week for my birthday. And thats with my story only getting 1 of two of titles I wanted, so I'll have to wait for the reorder on them. Oh well. The fifth volume of Scott Pilgrim, Scott Pilgrim vs. The Universe did come out. It is shiny. And a little sad...

But even with missing those two books, lots of Marvel this week. Like a new The Age of the Sentry. One story where some mysterious figures interfere with the Golden Guardian's dating life. And a second with the Guardians of the Galaxy and the Sentry as a pseudo-Silver Age Superboy and the Legion of Super-heroes. With some fake GoG members created as LSH parodies. Plus Idda, the very pregnant cousin of Ego the Living Planet...

And from Silver Age parody we move to the new Agents of ATLAS series. And Parker starts things off with Osborne and Woo reaching an accomidation after some saber rattling. Plus the Atlas Foundation decides on Jimmy's second until he provides his own heir. In this case fellow Genghis Kahn descendant, the Mandarin's son Temugin. Also a back-up featuring the 50s Agents meeting up with Wolverine in Cuba...

And then more Wolverine as Wolverine Power Pack finishes up with a team-up against the Hand. Any comic where super-powered kids beat on ninjas is a good comic...

And lastly from Marvel is the first War of Kings book, the two-issue Darkhawk mini. With 'hawk dealing with security issues at his new job and also an explination for how he went from L.A. and the Loners to back to the East coast working for P.E.G.A.S.U.S...

Next its Buffy the Vampire Slayer where lesbian Slayers Satsu and Kennedy team-up to fight vampire Hello Kittys. No really. Also more fall-out from the vampire chic inspired by Harmony's success...

The Secret Six get Bane away from Junior, we get some of Jeannette the Last Victim's back story, the Six's mystery employer is revealed and someone on the team betrays them all for the Card. Who's surprised. C'mon raise your hand if you're surprised...

ps238 has some kids presenting essays and..you know what? This book is fun and cool and full of super-hero action that is enjoyable to read and free of grim and grittiness. And given Diamond's new rules I worry about it. So go and buy it. Look here are the early issues. For free...

Right.

So we'll finish with a new Dynamo5. Where the family comes together to help Scrap and keep defending Tower City. More super-hero fun. Every time I see a blog post complaining about whats wrong with DC and Marvel's current super-hero lines (and there are plenty of things wrong) I just want to shake them and ask have you LOOKED at Image lately?
