Still no Empowered. Stupid Diamond. Of course, since I ended up with three titles I wasn't expecting I would have had to leave SOMETHING in my pull-box if it had come in. Still...

And the first unexpected book would be the new Spider-Man Loves Mary Jane, which I somehow missed when going over the week's releases. But I've got to say something to current writer Terry Moore. HAVE. SOMETHING. FUCKING. HAPPEN. This isn't SiP. Its ok for the plot to move forward at more than a snails pace. Yes, all the characters are nice (except for broody Harry) but you've mellowed even the Flash/Pete thing. C'mon! The book needs SOME conflict beyond "someone has a mean web-site about MJ"...

I also decided to check out I Hate Gallant Girl from Image/Shadowline. The Fellowship of Freedom is the premiere hero group and for seventy years they've held, well a beauty pageant really, to pick someone to be their female member Gallant Girl. Elemental controller Rene Tempete tried out and was rejected for a beach blonde from California with low-level powers and no real skills. And after she takes down a giant robot the FoF leader gives her an offer. She can wear a blonde wig and be the stand-in for Gallant Girl. Do all the heavy lifting while the "real" hero gets the credit. Which, rightly, annoys the hell out of Tempete. Luckily, FoF member Thunder wants to take Rene under his wing and mentor her in super-heroing. The book's plotted by Jim Valentino, with scripts by new-comer Kat Cahill and art by Seth Damoose of the webcomic Brat-halla. I'm looking forward to seeing where this one goes...

Also out is a new Savage Dragon. Didn't the last issue just come out? Oh well, its more of Solar-Man the crazy Not!Superman running amok, with various Image heroes getting together to try and stop him...

And speaking of giant cast lists, we've got a new Jack Staff. With the Claw captured by Sommerset Stone, Gentleman Adventurer, who's holding more than a bit of a grudge. While our titular hero is stuck in the base of Trisha Carthy, aka Tom-Tom the Robot Man, while she investigates the possibility of a shape-changer making Jack Staff look to be the bad guy. Oh and Detective Inspector Maveryk and Nolan, a wrestler who calls himself the Spider and corrupt city council members. Yeah, its a lot to try and keep track of.

Still with Image next up is Brit. With other-dimensional dictators, missing kids and another big grouping of Image heroes, in this case various Kirkman ones...

I Kill Giants has Barbara seeming to fall further into the crazy after the reveal of her sick mom. At least thats what everyone thinks. I mean kid can't deal with mom's cancer, invents giants she can fight. Makes sense right?

Over at DC Manhunter wraps up the Juarez story arc with a couple issues left before the book is canceled. Again. And Kate manages to tick off a multi-national, the federal government, Amanda Waller and step on the toes of friends Oracle and Director Bones. That just takes skill...

And also drawing to a close, issue #97 of 100 for 100 Bullets. Two factions within the surviving members of the Trust make plans. Lono runs from some dogs. And the other remaining Minutemen prepare for a finale...

Fables is yet more fall-out from the collapse of the Empire. As the release of one prisoner, who calls himself Mr. Dark, results in freedom for another...

And a new ps238, where clone Tyler gets given a super-hero name and costume by "his" parents, while regular Tyler gets cured of the alien virus. And the forces of Order and Chaos decide to expand the portal between their realms and Earth to finalize their conflict. All for humanity's own good of course...

And lastly is the first issue of the comic version of Butcher's The Dresden Files: Storm Front, with the writing duties taken over by Mark Powers. Syaf, who drew the prequel mini-series Welcome to the Jungle is still on art. As in the book, Harry is brought in to help with the investigation of a double homicide. One that involves one of the girls who works for vampire and brothel madam Bianca and one of the lieutenants to local mob boss Johnny Marcone...
