The Savages
Aug. 14th, 2008 11:45 amFor some reason I thought Hoffman was going to be the lead. Even though Laura Linney's name is listed first. Hmmm.
Anyway, good movie. Linney and Hoffman both have to disrupt their middle aged lives to deal with their elderly father (Philip Bosco) who is suffering from dementia. The two haven't seen him in years and are even somewhat surprised to find he's living in Sun City, AZ with his girlfriend (who dies from a heart attack or stroke in a nail salon). So they move him into a nursing home in Buffalo near the university Hoffman teaches at. This is very much an actor's movie that is strongly carried by Linney, though Hoffman is excellent as always. Quiet and low-key and very good...
