Its like American Gangster: The Prequel. Lawrence Fishburne as "Bumpy" Johnson is battling with Dutch Schultz (Tim Roth) for control of the Harlem numbers racket in the Great Depression. And watching from the sidelines is Andy Garcia as "Lucky" Luciano...

The romantic subplot with Vanessa Williams is a bit clunky at times. Its also when the score gets the most overly melodramatic. I wish film makers would rely less on musical stings to try and lend gravitas to a scene. It so rarely works...
