Veronica Mars: The End
May. 22nd, 2007 11:05 pmSadly it all ends with a sense of vague disappointment. A two hour show that was basically two seperate episodes taped together. And nothing gets resolved. In fact the last three or four episodes have felt weak, missing something. Much of this is likely from dividing the season into two main mystery arcs. With the second one lacking much of the personal connection the previous ones did. Lilly's murder, the bus crash and even the campus rapist had reasons to resonate with Veronica. The dean was just a guy she seemed to somewhat like...
The finale did have a few things going for it. Plenty of moments with Weevil, who has definately been underused this year. Not one, but TWO Logan meltdowns. But attempts to add some redeeming character depth to Dick fell mostly flat. Using the return of his fugitive Dad to trigger guilt over what responsibility he had for Beaver? Good. Trying to cram it all into 3 or 4 final episodes? Not so much...
Then you had various story elements that get no resolution. Veronica & Piz's relationship? No idea. The Sheriff's election? No clue. Hints at future fate for Mac, Dick, Parker, Logan or any other reoccuring character? Nothing. Plus we get several elements that feel like they would have been seeds for a 4th season mystery...
Yeah, I'm more than a little annoyed at the CW for dropping the show. But I'm not to pleased with Thomas and company for a seriously lacking finale...
