Only two pulls this week, so I decided to break my no mainstream DC or Marvel floppies and add Jeff Smith's Shazam! The Monster Society of Evil to my list. Mostly because it freaking awesome. Talking tigers! Little kids with gumption! Talking alligators that eat people without needing three pages of gore-a-rama! Its not just sweet its Supra Schweet...

Also this week we get the finale for the first arc of Criminal. And like most noir stories it ends with a lot of bodies and some violent, yet righteous vengeance. Plus there is a discussion by Brubaker, Charlie Huston, Warren Ellis, Greg Rucka, Patton Oswalt, Matt Fraction, David Goyer and Charles Ardai on NeoNoir movies that is going to add a mess of stuff to my netflix queue. Plus news of a director's cut of the Gibson Payback that is even darker and cynical than the original...

The 2nd to last issue of Phonogram comes out. And as always this is one of the best books I pick up that I fail to understand on sooooo many levels. One day I'm going to have to track down some of these BritPop and indy bands. I mean, I recogonize maybe 1 band name in 10...

Over on [profile] spoonyone's forums I have decided to help Marvel out by filling out all those 50 State Initiative teams. I mean Marvel has already done NY (Avengers), TX (whatever the team is called shown in CW#7) and CA (Champions). And so far we've handled HI (the Islanders), TN (lets call 'em the Titans, just to annoy DC) and FL (the Conquistidors until I think of a better name). But that still leaves FORTY-FOUR STATES in need of super-hero teams! And what about Puerto Rico? Don't they deserve an Avengers franchise?

Come help determine the make up of Avengers: NJ or Avengers: SD (the Rushmores?)! Or just post ideas here. Whatever works. Lets not let Marvel down the way they constantly let me down...

McG to take over as director over on The Losers movie

According to IESB Charlie’s Angels director McG is taking over THE LOSERS movie:

Our industry insider is telling us that McG has replaced Pete Berg as the director of the big screen adaptation for Vertigo/DC Comics “The Losers”.

The Losers was a comic published by the Vertigo imprint of DC Comics, written by Andy Diggle and drawn by Jock (Mark Simpson) that was based on an obscure old DC Comic following a team of soldiers in WWII. It is believed that the new film will follow the updated storyline that deals with a team of “special forces” soldiers who declare war after being betrayed and left for dead by their own superiors.

McG was long slated to be the director of the Superman movie before joining a long list of directors who ended up NOT making the Superman movie.
