The Killers ('46)

Based on a Hemmingway story, an ex-boxer named the Swede is gunned down by a pair of killers. After that the movie follows an insurance investigator who traces the victims back story. Sadly the only part of the movie that really works for me is the opening sequence in the diner. Most of the rest is fairly average and predictable, needing a few too many coincidences and surprisingly easy to locate witnesses to keep the story moving...
