The Looking Glass Wars
Jan. 20th, 2007 03:27 amBlah. I'm just over fifty pages in and I'm bored. And annoyed. This is not a good book. I'm expected to accept that a group (who we've been told have all these elite spies and soldiers, who have very recently won a civil war, who KNOW that the loser of that war will be back soon) didn't keep watch on an exiled royal? That the guard they had on her lands was SO BAD that she managed to build a GIANT FREAKING ARMY of deserts and outlaws? An army that then EASILY crushes the regular army? So much so, that it catches the "good" guy royals TOTALLY off guard at a birthday party? Destroying all opposition in its path until it breaks through the walls of the palace?
I hate villians who do STUPID STUPID things. And now I'm reminded that I also hate truly stupid heroes. Especially if they have been seemingly created JUST so they can be slaughtered early in the story to provide a "just and righteous vengeance" style motivation to the hero characters...
I'm done with this book. Which is too bad since I have nothing else to read for the next several hours of my shift. I should try and write something...
