Sunday Game
Feb. 14th, 2005 02:31 amToday was a good day to die. But I didn't, the other guy did.

Which brings us to this week. Miles manages to get back to town with Kyle's dead halfling. And so the party is mostly reunited. Kyle does have to roll up a new character, deciding on a human thief with the swashbuckler package. Eventually we head out of town after the cleric has a "god inspired dream" telling him to "go south to the water and follow the tracks of the green skins." Ok, whatever. I wouldn't let us follow the hook to take on the GT encampment so this works. After a days travel we camp at a small farm. Me, Brendan's mage and Miles' cleric get permission to camp in the fields, while Kyle's thief rents the barn hayloft.
And of course someone attempts to sneak up on us during my watch. A pair of GT scouts. They get off a signal arrow but I smash one down with a wicked mace blow. And then the GT cavalry arrives. So we head back for the barn, me with just a shield and clothing for armor. Since I took off my new bronze plate to clean it during my watch. Brendan gets off some decent spells on the cavalry including a low level fireball. And Kyle ALMOST manages to snipe the GT leader from the hayloft. But then the cavalry charges in. Miles gets ko'd after getting stabbed by TWO lances. And Brendan's out of spells. I manage to knock one guy off his horse and take it, trampling him in the process. The others grab OUR mounts and run to the farmhouse for cover. Me, I go after the circling horsemen.
My mount takes a couple arrows and I get thrown but manage to land on my feet. I then drag down another GT before he can join the others. While the other GT's get set up around the farmhouse, me and this GT duel it out. I've managed to put on a couple pieces of armor before the charge, so my AC is a LITTLE better. And Noah rolls for crap in the fight. So down the guy goes. And then seeing how grim things look I call out the GT leader. A certain Aknar. I insult him and demand he face me in single combat. Or be known as a coward. We both get healed and armor up and so begins my first Honor Duel.
The fight is pretty even. Aknar has a couple levels on me, but GT's have a negative 50% to their HD and his armor is SLIGHTLY worse than mine. And then I crit him. In the back of the skull. For a level 10 crit with 19 points of damage. So down he goes. His second steps up and asks for mercy and blah blah blah never come after us again blah blah blah. And then I remember. Richard my soldier has HackLust. Which is triggered when you crit an opponent. So the whole ask for quarter thing NEVER happens. Instead I go berserk and finish off Aknar. And then lunge for his second. Who at the same time gets backshot by Kyle and his 12 gauge crossbow. So down he goes. Me, I still need to do damage. And we're surrounded by 7 slightly singed GTs on horseback.
But their leader AND his second in command are both down. So morale check. Hey, they're Gnome Titans, their morale starts high and doesn't drop much even for this. Noah rolls a 19. The GTs panic and flee into the night. I carve up one of their horses before it can get away to drain my HackLust and Kyle blows the arm off another with a critical shot. And so the game ends. Victory was snatched thanks to me.
Feels good to be the hero.
