Saturday Game

lurkerwithoutAfter numerous delays this campaign got moving again. So our group sets out with the caravan we'd hired on with earlier. We all basically agree to escort the merchant on his shortcut, and come back to start our treasure hunt later. So its my Aardvarkian thief, Dan's dwarven fighter/cleric, Jane's gnome illusionist/thief, Misty's Pixie-Faerie archer and Kyle's human charlatan...
We get about an HOUR from the mostly burned out town and get attacked. By a manticore. Yeep. So I use my robe of blending to hide on the rear wagon while the others attempt to engage the beast at long range. They manage to do some minimal damage, take some bad hits in return and Kyle comes up with a brilliant tactic. Dave's dwarf has been using a slow but massive damaging 12-gauge crossbow. Well high damage if his rolls didn't all suck. So Kyle attaches a bottle with his oil of fiery burning to Dave's next shot. Ka-BOOOM! The manticore crashes in flames onto the front wagon, totalling it...
Which makes this a good spot to camp then. Got to salvage stuff from that wagon and we want to carve up the manticore for potentially valuable bits. While doing so we find a nearby field of deadly black poppies. Luckily we spot them before getting our lungs filled with a poisonous narcotic and we destroy the field...
Theres a snake attack during the night, but it gets handled without any real problems. So onward!
We have a quiet uneventful day of travel, ending the day camped near an area of small hills. The pixie-faerie doesn't sense any life forms so the merchant has us set up camp. And a couple of hours before dawn is when we find ourselves surrounded by monster zombies. A giant lion, a couple of ogrish things and some shamby humanoid zombie. Maybe a bugbear originally. Misty uses up her bolts of thermal fury to destroy one and manages to drench the lion in lamp oil. Right before I throw a flaming log at it. And roll a crit! Woot! The other two almost kill Jane's gnome, but between Dan's axe of doom and Kyle's rapier of speed, they manage to finish them off and save her...
