List 5 reasons why you are a nerd. And make them good reasons. Justify them. Explain them. Be loud and proud about how big of a nerd you are! Then pick the 5 biggest nerds you know and have them do the meme.

Reason #1: Gaming. I've been playing RPGs since I was 8. Got the red Basic D&D box at 9. And I've been at since. 22 years. And book shelves full of books, notebooks full of half-done campaigns and settings and adventures. Folder full of character sheets. And the fact that nearly ALL my real-life friends have been made thru gaming...

Reason #2: Print comics. I can tell you who the founding X-Men were. And the 2nd "international" team. Why the Hellboy movie adaptation rocked and the League of Extradiordinary Gentlemen one sucked. Why John Gaunt has the nickname Grinner. The name of 3 of Superman's girlfriends. Who the Lord of Locusts is. And why they're obsessed with Rose and her grand-mother. The name of Rocket Racoon's ship and his crew. Why the Dire Wraiths fear Rom, the Space Knight. And why Finger got screwed by Kane and DC. Yeah I'm a comics nerd...

Reason #3: Online comics. Sure this is the "scene" I'm newest to. But my trawl list of comics is fast approaching the 100 titles mark. And when I get to suscribing to Modern Tales its going to surpass that. Plus I follow secondary sites. People who TALK about webcomics. And I read the rants and the blogs and the news updates. Just so I know how people are doing and what the current drama is. Obsessive behavior? Maybe. But its part of being a nerd...

Reason #4: Reading. Not just books about my favorite show. Not one or two favorite authors. I mean buying books. Buying them by armload. And reading them. ANd then rereading them. ANd rerereading them. And on and on. THe joy of finding a new author you like and going out and tracking down everything they've done. Of being asked; "What do you want in your room?" To which there is only one answer. More bookshelves...

Reason #5: SciFi/Fantasy Genre television. Or Why FOX needs to burn. Who else but a nerd gets upset over the cancellation of shows like Farscape and Greg the Bunny and Firefly? And weeps for joy at even their partial resurection? Who else supports Trek thru crap season after crap season? Hoping against hope, that THIS time it will all be good. It will have the magic that brought you into the fold in the first place. And of course ARGUES about EVERYTHING involved in EVERYTHING about all these shows and more? Why a nerd of course...

So which of you punks do I tag? Going for ones who'll actually do it of course...

So TAG! to:

#1) I've been into desktop computers since Trash Eighties.

#2) PUBLIC TV. (As the UHF stations here are too poopy.) I've even worked the phone banks on pledge drives. Great way to meet fellow nerds.

#3) Nerd Food. Anybody for Ramen? How about Fish Sticks?

#4) Nerd Car. Chevy Prizm, a.k.a. Toyota Corolla wearing a bowtie. Thinking about changing it into a Holden by buying new badges and hubcaps.

#5) Nerd fashion. Dickie slacks with cell phone pockets (which I use for anything other than carrying a cell phone, which I don't have or want), freebie t-shirts from cereal companies, army surplus belt, socks from a discount store, sneakers from the bargain rack at Payless Shoe Source. Don't need glasses but have a fake pair if I really want to nerd out, which isn't so often.

1. Role Playing -- Ever since the idiot sister got the red basic D&D set, I've been hooked. Eventhough we lived out in the middle of nowhere, I'd create characters and run scenarios in my head. After college, I found games like 7th Sea and Champions.

2. Food/Cooking -- Since I didn't have cable growing up, watching the cooking shows on PBS was my form of entertainment coming home from school. It helped get me interested in visiting other countries (though that took a while). When we went out to new restaurants, I'd be the one trying the weird stuff on the menu (escarot? french fried frog legs? chicken hearts? SWEET!). Cooking is a passion for me.

3. Reading -- I was the youngest kid in my hometown to get a library card. I read the entirity of "Hans Brinker & the Silver Skates" when I was four. Librarians trusted ME to go up by myself to the special upstairs research section without help. I could care less about clothes or shoe shopping. Stick me in a book shop and you've lost me for hours.

4. Geek men -- The Beloved Fiance's a sweetheart and a geek himself. Of course, I've always had a...unique eye when it comes to men. Geddy Lee, Scott Pollard, Manu Ginobli, Steve Nash, Gary Gulman...:)

5. Overall Tastes -- I'm not the most outgoing of girls. My idea of fashion is a clean t-shirt and jeans. I like the band Rush instead of emo or pop. I e-wrestle, both with male and female characters and have won championships with both. My bookcases are overflowing with lurid true crime. I'm still a sucker for Pokemon, but only if I can subtitle them my "special" way. :)
