Well the state income or sales tax deduction didn't help unfortunately. So I still had to pay both federal and state taxes. And "I" of course refers to me borrowing 150 bucks from my mom. I feel like such a useless deadbeat right now. Must find new job.

Sorry to hear that. Piece of advice: until you land a new job, ask your employer for a W-4 form, calculate your exemptions AND THEN REDUCE THAT NUMBER BY ONE. That way, they'll take more taxes out of your paycheck, and you won't owe money the next time. Granted, your take-home pay will go down a little... but there's now way around the matter.

P. S. -- Did you include any and all medical deductions when calculating deductions? This includes not only doctor's bills & perscription drug costs, but also health insurance premiums, dentists fees, ophthalmologists, etc? Similarly, if you need glasses/contact lenses and bought a set in 2004, the cost counts as a medical deduction.

(It's never too late: you can always amend your return after you submit your initial return.)
