Julie is a young woman who worries she lacks purpose or direction. So she decides she'll spend a year cooking every recipe in Julia Childs cookbook. The movie is split between Julie (Amy Adams) and parts of Julia's (Meryl Streep) life before she became a household name. Amy Adams has easily become one of my personal favorite actresses to watch. And Meryl Streep is Meryl fuckin' Streep. Also I had no idea Childs was some kind of giantess...

She was six feet, two inches.

And in my personal pantheon, she comes before Auguste Escoffier and Harold McGee.

The movie had a great sequence when Julia Childs' sister is visiting (who is played by Jane Lynch) and the two of them are just looming around the train station with Childs' husband (the always excellent Stanley Tucci)...

Julia's story was awesome through and through. Julie's story started to go off the rails near the end and the text at the end destroyed the entire movie for me. It gave me a glimpse at the pettiness of Julie and learning more about the blog and the real-life blogger has erased any desire I have to see the movie unless all the Julie scenes are edited out. If they release a director's cut called "Julia" then I'm all about that. They can release the other half as "vapid, spoiled bitch who can't spell" if they really feel the need.
