AZ House kills spouse rape bill

Saw this on azjournal, but the quote is from

Much of the time, I love this state and am proud to be a resident. Today, I’d almost prefer to call myself a Californian, and we all know the issues there.
Yesterday, the Arizona House decided to kill a bill that that would give spousal rape the same degree of severity as “standard” rape. It's currently one step above a misdemeanor. Their rationale was there were insufficient data to determine the prevalence of spousal rape in the state.
It would make sense to me, and I would think to anyone who doesn't support rapists, that even if there were only one instance a year, a rape is a rape and should be punished accordingly.
However, just like in California, our legislators have once again encouraged predators to keep their victims under their own roofs, only in this case it’s adults instead of kids.
“Reps. Laura Knaperek, R-Tempe; Mark Anderson, R-Mesa; Warde Nichols, R-Chandler; and John Allen, R-Phoenix, voted no.” (from the Arizona Republic article) And let’s not forget Sen. Robert Blendu, R-Peoria, who vowed to champion the bill he’d helped kill last year and then sabotaged it by not showing to testify or submit a deposition in support.
Congratulations, Representatives Knaperek, Anderson, Nichols and Allen, and Senator Blendu. You’ve made certain I will lend whatever support I can to whoever runs against you, both in the next election and any other race you may ever enter. I wouldn’t support your bids for Dog Catcher, much less representatives of the people of this state.
Don’t forget these names, particularly if you’re a woman. They just worked to make sure you can be claimed as property.
