Twitter's Underpinnings

I'm using Twitter right now to follow less than a dozen people. Over a third of whom are fictional. But I keep wondering. Where exactly is the money supposed to be? Are their ads I don't see because of my ad-blockers? Otherwise I can understand its popularity of use, but not to investors. Where is the revenue on this thing?

Right now it generates no revenue. It's going to start introducing pay services, though. Tiered accounts that let you type more characters. User validation so you can prove you are who you are. Pay to be added to famous people's friends lists, etc.
