I really need to stop reading George Will's editorials. Even as he lists the varied bungles and disasters of the out-going administration, he still can't resist saying that history probably won't judge the Bush presidency as harshly as many say. And just his ending:

The president does not depart an angry man. He takes his leave with the serenity of someone sustained by a providential sense of history, as well as by wide reading of presidential histories, which contain many accounts of miseries. He leaves in eager anticipation of resuming life where he has been happiest, deep in the heart of Texas.

You've killed my inauguration buzz Mr. Will. Thanks a fucking lot...

I think it might have been Frank Rich who basically called Bush out for reading so many biographies of world leaders, on the grounds that reading those types of books can often make you DUMBER; after all, all biographies of currently revered leaders boil down to the exact same stories, ie. Brave Man Makes Tough Choices That Are Criticized But Ultimately Vindicated By History. If that's the sort of script you're feeding yourself, you're doing a DISservice to your own intellectual development.

If you want to feel better, read The President's speech from yesterday where he rakes the Shrub & his administration over the coals in front of millions of people.
"As for our common defence, we reject as false the choice between our safety and our ideals. Our founding fathers, faced with perils we can scarcely imagine, drafted a charter to assure the rule of law and the rights of man, a charter expanded by the blood of generations. Those ideals still light the world, and we will not give them up for expedience's sake."
It was fun watching that worm squirm in his seat.

Yeah, I read the speech yesterday after I woke up. Which is why I had a positive buzz...

Don't let this harsh your groove. It's just denial.

The Lemur was the first president of the Internet age, and we will not forget nor allow forgetting to happen so "history judges him less harshly."

Groove on to our awesome new president. Happy Change + 1 day.

I just avoid George Will like I avoid Mallard Fillmore- it's all stuff I know will just make me cranky and take up brain cells that could be used on puppies or comics or something else awesome. :/

Let me make sure I get this straight...

The man you supported for Presidency won cleanly and clearly. He's inaugurated, to the vast celebrations of the American Public, even those who didn't support him.

And beause a writer wrote that the previous President (a) wasn't a compelte disaster and (b) seems happy as he steps aside, it ruins YOUR happiness?

You are a sad, strange little man, and you have my pity. Farewell.
