See there is this greedy king see. And he over-taxes everyone. But he's worried about losing his money see. So one of his advisers creates a magic time-travel powder. But he tests it on a dog the king's soldiers bring him see. And that dog is Groo's dog Rufferto. So Groo stops in the one bridge connecting the town to everywhere else and refuses to move until he gets his dog back see. And at the same "time" Rufferto is having an adventure in the modern world. Which is not very fun see...
See? Its a moral lesson AND Groo's One Joke...
