STAMFORD, Conn. --World Wrestling Entertainment suspended two wrestlers Friday for violating its substance abuse and drug testing policy.
Chris Mordetzky was suspended for 60 days for his second violation, and Harry Smith for 30 days for his first violation, WWE spokesman Gary Davis said. Mordetzky wrestles under the name Chris Masters, and Smith goes by D.H. Smith in the ring.
Under the WWE substance abuse and drug testing policy begun last year, which requires tests for steroids and other drugs, a wrestler faces a 30-day suspension without pay for a first violation, a 60-day suspension for a second violation and firing for a third violation. Performers are tested at least four times per year.
The Stamford-based company wouldn't identify the drugs either man tested positive for. The WWE suspended 10 wrestlers in August for drug violations, but didn't identify them. As part of its new policy that began Thursday, the company now identifies the performers. Davis wouldn't comment on whether Mordetzky was one of the 10 wrestler suspended this summer.
"WWE is very serious about eradicating the use of steroids and the abuse of prescription drugs," Davis said. "And we hope by making the names of our performers public it that will be a further deterrent to the other performers."
The WWE said the August suspensions were based on independent information from the Albany County New York District Attorney's Office, which has been investigating illegal sales of steroids and growth hormones.
So, not watching wrestling, are these just to choads that got scapegoated or have people actually heard of them?
Re: WWE suspends 2 wrestlers for substance abuse violations
Chris Mordetzky wrestles as Chris Masters, best known for the stupid fucking Masterlock. Google it and be prepared countless macros using it...
Harry Smith is the son of Davey Boy "British Bulldog" Smith and there was supposed to be a major push in the works for him, along with two other 2nd Gen Hart Foundation wrestlers (who are screwed by their cousins fuckery)...
Re: WWE suspends 2 wrestlers for substance abuse violations
Ok I was slightly off in what I was remembering. From Online Onslaught (http://www.onlineonslaught.com/), where I get my recaps and wrassling news:
And in fact, the release that'll have the greatest impact was the outright firing of a guy that 95% of you have probably never even seen, and wouldn't even recognize. Last week, WWE released Teddy Hart, who had been working in the developmentals for the past 6 months or so.
Why is this impactful? Well, because, WWE was all set to debut The Next Generation Hart Foundation, with Teddy as it's leader (along with Davey Boy Smith's son Harry and Jim Neidhart's daughter Nattie). The Next Gen Harts have been perfecting their act, and were over huge in OVW.
The plan was for them to arrive, together, on TV in time to do a big debut angle commemorating the 10 year anniversary of The Montreal Screwjob. From there, they would be installed as major players on SmackDown!. With Teddy getting the axe, that plan was immediately scrapped. Harry Smith (well, "DH Smith") has now debuted as a singles worker on RAW, and Nattie (and Ted DiBiase Jr., who also worked with the group) await further word.
Teddy's firing can probably be filed under "Surprising, Not Exactly." Most folks report that the guy has a natural douchetasticness that makes Randall Orton seem like a well mannered prep school chess club president, except that (unlike Orton, who has an instinctive bit of self-preservation in him) he can't really turn it off in order to kiss the right asses. Teddy was actually dismissed from the embryonic WWF Developmental Program once before in 1999 for his raging immaturity. Apparently, it flared up again, and it cost him (and his Hart-family mates) a plum job.
