So up to book 5 (The Face of Chaos) of my reread. An important book as it introduces the Beysib (though they don't DO much in this book) and adds Morris' Roxanne fully to the mix. And Morris' stuff gets SLIGHTLY better. Shes mostly stopped trying to imitate, I don't know who, Howard or Moorcock or Leiber or other fantasy writers like them. Someone still needs to take away her thesaurus. And all of her characters are still utterly and totally unlikable...
I mean, even Niko/Stealth, who is ALMOST friendly enough to break through the total arrogance to generate some empathy. But can't have that, so he's made a pedarast. Does taking the virginity of a 13 year old still count as sex with a child? Either way it manages to squash any burgeoning caring the reader might have for a Morris character so I guess thats the point...
And of course she still has really two dimensional characters with obvious characterizations. And just in case their completely unsubtle actions fail to clue in a reader she makes sure to TELL over and over again what each character's traits are...
Blah.
I'm so glad she apparantly isn't involved in the new series...
