Batwoman: Elegy written by Greg Rucka, art by J.H. Williams III, colors by Dave Stewart, letters by Todd Klein
Collecting the first arc of Rucka and Williams' all too short run on Detective Comics. Where they reintroduce Rucka's new version of DC's Batwoman. In this first arc we meet Kate, her family and her own nemesis, crazy-girl and cult leader Alice. All drawn magnificently by J.H. Williams III. Rucka's skills at noir and espionage mesh well here with the street level heroics of the Bat family. And he has a light touch that perfectly integrates Kate's sexuality into the character without feeling like he's pandering or lecturing...
But its the art that keeps attracting your attention. Williams' panels and figures and thriving backgrounds are perfection. Whether its a simple work-out scene, a spawling brawl, a hallucinatory flashback or a formal dress ball, J.H. Williams shows true mastery. And he's perfectly backstopped by the equally talented Dave Stewart on colors and living legend Todd Klein on letters...
