Had free passes for an early showing of It's Kind of a Funny Story. Good movie, funny and sweet in just the right balance. 16 year old Craig is feeling depressed and anxious due to..well honestly pretty normal teen-age stuff. Taking the right courses to get into the right school to get the right job to etc etc etc. And he's obsessed with his best friend's girlfriend. And he's having dreams about committing suicide. So he sort of accidently gets himself committed for psychiatric observation. And because the hospitals teen ward is under renovation, he's placed in the adult ward. Of course much of the crazy in the ward seems to be pretty low-key...
Keir Gilchrist does an excellent job here as Craig. And Zach Galifianakis shows some nice range as the mentory-ish Bobby. I also enjoyed the small parts by Lauren Graham and Jim Gaffigan as Craig's parents...
