New Comics Day 5/5/10
May. 6th, 2010 08:48 amSo in addition to yesterday's regular pulls I decided to grab the new first issue of Vertigo's new i, zombie. Because, hey a dollar. Plus its got Michael Allred on art, always a plus. Good set-up. Eugene, Oregon is full of graveyards and also apparently supernatural things. Like Gwen, who works as a gravedigger. Useful, since as a zombie she has to eat a human brain once a month or turn into a mindless shambler. They cemetery she works at is home to her best friend a ghost. Also in town is a vampire who runs a paintball park and a were-terrier with a crush on Gwen. And some monster hunter types. All intriguing enough that I'll probably get the next issue. So good job $1 price-tag...
Busiek finishes up the final issue of Astro City: the Dark Age. Four books of four issues each. This last one has lots of action. Street Angel vs. the Pale Horseman. The Williams brothers vs. Lord Sovereign. Charles & Royal + the Silver Agent vs. Lord Sovereign. The Pale Horseman vs. Lord Sovereign. And a bonus of part of the story pitch Busiek originally did when he planned on doing the story originally with Marvel...
On the Secret Six Bane and Jeannette have a new group of allies (Giganta, Dwarfstar, Lady Vic & King Shark) for a mission. While the others keep on trying to catch up with Cat-Man. Who has flashbacks to his childhood while hunting down the next of the baddies who attacked Cheshire and his son. And Thomas Blake's dad? Kind of a total douche...
The third issue of Orc Stain is basically safecracker One-Eye wrecking shit as he works at escaping town while being pursued by an angry mob...
The whole Thor and the Warriors Four mini-series is worth it for the Beta Ray Bill & Katie Power cover alone. That it also includes Hercules and Power Pack beating on Hydra agents while Herc never stops monologing about his Twelve Labors is all pure gravy...
Lastly we've got Knights of the Dinner Table which actually seems to have more comic strips than normal this issue. So not only the ongoing Untouchable Trio +1 Reborn in Bag World, but non-continous stuff with the Knights and Black Hands. The latter is especially good, being an old-school Stevil/Pete vs. Newt strip...
