This tv-movie seems to have been the first not written by Parker. Instead if I'm remembering right, the script is by Selleck, the director and the regular producer. So it matches the feel of the previous tv-movies but doesn't have anything that resembles the books. Its also a bit more melancholy in feel than previous ones, which weren't exactly sunshine and lollipops to start...

Chief Stone is dealing with an ever more hostile town council, the near fatal shooting of his friend from State Homicide and a woman looking for her son who has been missing for seven years...

I think I like Selleck in this even more than as Magnum. Even with the television version moving further away from the books...
