Barry Pepper is Mike a jerk border patrol officer on the Texas/Mexico. He accidently kills Estrada (Julio Cesar Cedillo) and buries him in a shallow grave (1st). Some hunters stumble on the corpse while shooting at foxes or coyotes or something. Estrada's body is brought into town and buried (2nd). His friend Pete (Tommy Lee Jones) finds out Mike killed him and so kidnaps him. He then forces the border patrol officer to dig up his dead friend and help him haul it into Mexico so that Mel can be buried in his home village like he wanted (3rd)...

Tommy Lee Jones is fairly brutal to poor, dumb Mike. Anytime anything disgusting has to be done he makes Mike do it. The movie is interesting and well-acted but still feels slight somehow. It does move along at a decent pace, even at a running time just over two hours. Worth a watch but I don't see myself wanting to view it more than once...
