lurkerwithout: (eastman)
This was a dumb movie. Funny at times, in a gory over-the-top way. But stupid. Like on a 1 to 10 scale, a 4 for funny and an 11 for dumb...
lurkerwithout: (Book on bed)
June 1st: William Dietz - The Final Battle: The second Huduathan War, this time against a Confederacy of races. Though much of the focus is still on the Legion...

June 2nd: Dietz - By Blood Alone: The series moves forward to a 3rd generation as mixed military, business and foreign elements begin a civil war/mutiny among the human military and Earth...
Dietz - By Force of Arms: With the mutiny ended and the human government reunited, the Confederacy now must face the threat of the feline Thraki and their enemies, the A.I. controlled war-machines known as the Sheen. And in need of greater military might the Confederacy and the Legion turn to new allies in the Huduathan...

June 4th: Dietz - For More Than Glory: With the threat of the Sheen ended and the Thraki as new members, the Confederate military can concentrate on internal matters. But the insectoid Ramathians are plotting against the other races, as they secretly prepare for one of their rare Great Births that will add BILLIONS to their population...
Dietz - For Those Who Fell: After the Ramathians opened hostilities by destroying the battleship that served as the Confederacy's mobile capitol and stealing much of the deactivated Sheen fleet, a new capitol is chosen in the Legion/Naa world of Algernon. And with Bill Booly, whose grandmother was Naa, as commander of the Legion the current Chief of Chiefs sees this as a way for his race to become the first non-space faring race to gain Confederate membership. At the same time the Legion sends a task force to secure a newly invented Ramathian FTL communications device...

June 5th: Dietz - When All Seems Lost: An ambush by the Ramathians of a Confederate convoy unknowingly captures the Confederate President and much of his Cabinet. And the Legion must find a way to rescue him and the other prisoners from harsh POW camp before the Ramathians discover their prize or the Vice-President succeeds in his coup attempt...

June 6th: Eric Flint (ed) - Ring of Fire II: The second "pro" anthology of Flint's alt history shared world series. The series moves forward from the base concept of a small West Virginia mining town being transported back to 1631 Germany...

June 7th: Flint (ed) - Grantville Gazette: The first "fan" anthology, originally published online thru Baen's Bar. Flint's encouragement of his fandom and willingness to make the best of their work part of his canon is one of the more appealing parts of this series to me...

June 8th: Flint (ed) - Grantville Gazette II: Second paper "fan" anthology...

June 9th: Flint (ed) - Grantville Gazette III: Third paper "fan" anthology...

June 10th: Michael Chabon - The Yiddish Policeman's Union: More alt history. This time one where the nation-state of Israel was a failure and the U.S. creates a temporary Jewish settlement on the coast of Alaska. June 15th: Flint - 1632: The start of Flint's alt history series. Also the weakest book as Flint quirks as a writer jump out at various points. Its also the only full length novel in the series he writes on his own though...

June 16th: Flint/David Weber - 1633: The first book in the series that Flint co-writes. And even in later short works he does solo you can see that he learns and improves his own writing by working with others...

June 17th: Flint (ed) - Ring of Fire: First of the "pro" anthologies...

June 18th: Flint/Virginia DeMarce - 1634: The Ram Rebellion: The Francoian peasants, inspired by their American neighbors and the writings of Thomas Paine begin a revolt against their local nobles...
C.E. Murphy - House of Cards: 2nd book in Murphy's Negotiator series. Which, when I wrote about the first one, has a Disney's Gargoyles meets the World of Darkness feel to it. In this one public defender Margrit Knight struggles with her romantic feelings for the Gargoyle Alban Korund as well as negotiate between the Old Races of Gargoyle, Vampire, Djinn and Dragon and the thought extinct Selkies. Also [personal profile] mizkit should probably talk to whoever does her cover art. The woman on the covers for this series doesn't even look at all black...

June 19th: Kat Richardson - Greywalker: Another modern fantasy series. PI Harper Blaine discovers a whole supernatural world after a near death experience leaves her able to interact with ghosts. I got this because I liked Richardson's short story in the Mean Streets anthology and its pretty good. I'm looking forward to checking out more of the series...

June 21st: Shira Lipkin - Wind Tunnel Dreams: A collection of short fiction by [personal profile] shadesong. I'd say my favorite pieces are the Carnival ones and the "ghosts" of Las Vegas ones. Though the re-imagined fairy tales by her and her daughter are good also...
