Finished unpacking (but not sorting, oh dear gods where am I going to put those paperbacks, so many of them SO MANY PAPERBACKS) so lets see what comics I got this week...
We'll start with Marvel and Agents of ATLAS, where our band of secret heroes have a run in with the new Captain America which ties into their Ghost Pilot case from the 50s. Which gets solved but leads to Hoover closing down their group...
Next up is Fin Fang 4 Return! an amusing one-shot focusing on four formerly giant monsters who've been shrunk down by Reed Richards. Fin Fang Foom! Gorgilla! Googam, Son of Goom! Elektro! So we get six short stories. The first is Doc Samson attempting to run a joint therapy session for the shrunken "monsters". Next is Fin Fang Foom, master chef. Then its "Curious Gorgilla" who gets his friend the Man in the Blue Pajamas to let him visit the Lincoln Memorial in D.C. Bagoom manages to trick celebrity actress/model/wealthy person Angelina JolieDona Angel into adding him to her "collection" of orphans. And almost finally a case of mistaken identity gets Elektro (the robot not the Spider-Man foe) sent to prison where all the forgotten Spidey villains are kept. Which means we get the return of such menaces as the Hypno-Hustler, Big Wheel, Larcenous Lil, Demolition Derby and others. The book finishes up with a reprint of the holiday story where Fin Fang Foom and Dr. Strange's manservant Wong team up to beat up on Hydra...
Marvel Zombies 4 continues to be awesome. I mean I care about something the Hood does again. THE HOOD! Plus Night Shift. Oh and Jennifer Kale gets an offer from a certain classic dark power...
The latest War of Kings has the Starjammers and Guardians of the Galaxy running a joint rescue mission. Which is all worth it if only for the few panels of Rocket Raccoon kicking Gladiator's ass. I love that little furball...
X-Men First Class Finals finishes up with more retrospective inside Jean's mind and finishes with a graduation. This mini is actually a bit disapointing. Aside from the Scott/Jean date back-up drawn by Coleen Coover, not really worth it. But there is another Giant Size special coming and then new writer Scott Grey (who did the Fin Fang Four one-shot) takes over writing Uncanny X-Men First Class with the international team. Which makes me wonder if they'll be cancelling Wolverine First Class since it covers the same time period. Oh who am I kidding, Marvel have one FEWER Wolverine-centric book? It is to laugh...
And we're done with Marvel and on to Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Where Dawn has her next transformation, leading to sisterly bonding...
Jersey Gods continues its split story between the Kirby-ish NotNew Gods and the Jersey adventures of would-be fashion journalist Zoe. I really hope they get to the relationship stuff from the preview of this soon. I mean the comics nice-enough, but its not the Kirby/regular life conflict I was looking for...
The government types in Groom Lake are actually bigger tools than the ones from X-Files. Which eventually leads to our sort of hero Karl deciding to try and bust loose...
Astro City: the Dark Age returns and its '82. The story continues to follow brothers Royal and Charles as they hunt for the Pyramid member who killed their parents...
And finally we've got The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen: Century: 1910. I've only given this a quick read so far. But the new League is Mina, Quartermain, Orlando, Raffles and Carnecki. Plus you get Nemo's daughter. Much better than The Black Dossier so far. But this is very much one that takes more than one reading...
