And happy birthday to that mouldering relic userinfoscarybaldguy. Don't bust a hip gramps!

Twas not the good. A few decent scenes (Jet Li very rarely does a bad fight scene), Brandon Frasier is charming as always. But the scripting? The dialogue? The actors playing Alex and Lin the Ninja Girl? Bad. I didn't have any problems with Maria Bello as the replacement Evie. She doesn't have the jaw dropping hotness of Weisz, but she still had good chemistry with Frasier...

Man so many stupid plot points. And lots of annoying little details. Like that the actor who played Alex sounded like he was from New York or something. Odd for a character who grew up as a somewhat upper class Brit...

So you want Frasier beating up monsters pulp hero style? Rent the first one. Want a tale of immortals and kung fu and Jet Li? Wait for the dvd for Forbidden Kingdom. This movie might, just MIGHT, be worth investing free time in on television. Thats about it...

Almost scary big haul this week. I really should budget better. But how can I? Comics man! COMICS!

And we start with volume 2 launch of Army@Love. With Were-gorillas, people having sex with Were-gorillas, creators getting meta-tortured at meta-Gitmo and time travel. Oh Rick Veitch don't you ever change...

And from one take on the American military we move to another with issue #3 of Kyle Baker's Special Forces. Touching on kid "soldiers", mercenaries used in Iraq and the high instances of sexual assault amidst female members of the armed services...

From there we go to a lighter book with Jack of Fables. Though given this is one of the gloomier and bloodier arcs of this book thats saying something. The sheriff from back east catches up with Jack and puts a final end to the Candle Gang...

Next is Jack Staff. Which I'm not even going to try and explain. I mean if you don't like stories about girls in pink shirts attacking mostly invisible part-time secret agent/thieves with swords what more can I do? Its got a super-hero named The Butler people! THE BUTLER!

Over on Buffy the Vampire Slayer, the Buffster and Fray get past the obligatory misunderstanding fight to move foward on their cross-time cross-over caper...

Also from the Whedonverse is the next Spike: After the Fall. Where Spike hits a girl. Ok, a girl whos also kind of a spider. And then maybe he attacks another girl with a truck. But given how she seems to cope with Illyra she's probably not a "real" girl...

Over halfway!

Next is Manhunter. Where, honestly the timing in how this one is written bugs me. Part way in I was trying to figure out what the hell just happened. Still Kate stomps around trying to figure out who's killing illegals and possibly harvesting bits of them...

Criminal starts a new story arc. This one focused on Jacob the ex-counterfeiter turned comic strip artist. Brubaker and Sean Phillips are really just too fucking awesome for words on this book...

Then its another relaunch. This time of Spider-Man Loves Mary Jane with new creative team Terry Moore and Craig Rousseau. I've really got to pick up the issues between the big HC and this one. If only to figure out how Liz and Flash got back together...

And we've got another Franklin Richards one-shot Franklin Richards Son of a Genius Summer Smackdown, with Franklin helping his Uncle Ben defend his UCWF (Unlimited Class Wrestling Federation for the clueless) title belt, spending a day with his dad, raising up a zombie, helping robots date and other misadventures. The fact that the comic's market can barely support these one-shots and mini-series for Power Pack just makes me sad. But no, keep buying your eighteen hundred Giant Event cross-over books. Because who the hell wants to support books that are, you know, FUN...

And we'll finish with the next Patsy Walker: Hellcat. Where she fights a sea monster, gets lectured by some bunch of gods/witches/dudes in an igloo. Oh and shows off her massive wardrobe of hip and cool clothes. Seriously, if Patsy can still be breezy about super-heroing after THE UNIVERSE'S WORST MARRIAGE everyone else can just stop be such bitchy whiny angst babies...
