Sunday Trade: Bone
Jul. 14th, 2008 10:27 amI completely forgot about this yesterday. To be fair I was half-asleep the entire day and just trying to last until Venture Brothers (which was AWESOME)...
Anywaythislast week's trade:

Bone by Jeff Smith
This is the one volume edition. The entire series in one giant fat trade. Over 1300 pages for (from what I remember) around $40-50. And given how damn good Bone is thats an amazing steal. Fone Bone (the guy so adorable I own a plush version) is a little pale white big-nosed dude. He and his cousin's Phoney and Smiley Bone were chased out of Boneville because of one of Phoney's scams going very, very badly. The three wander a desert for a little bit and then all end up in The Valley. Home to clusters of farms, a mysterious dragon, talking animals and of course the Rat Creatures. The Stupid, Stupid Rat Creatures. Two of whom are always chasing Fone in the hopes of making him into a quiche...
Of course thats just the set-up. The real story is about secret princesses, prophecy, the terrible Lord of the Locusts, war and magic. Really Bone is freaking epic. And Smith's art is slightly cartoony, but in a classic Disney comics kind of way. Its damn, damn good. Smith really created a classic with this...
