Delayed New Comics Day
Feb. 28th, 2008 08:15 amRight. Awake. Internets working. Time for comics!
And what a heaping big pile it is. I should probably cut back. I mean I had originally planned out a budget. But I suck at delayed gratification. COMICS! NOW NOW NOW NOW NOW NOW!!!
Ok then...
We start with the third issue of Mouse Guard Winter: 1152. Brave warrior mice. Facing blizzards! Chasing poisoners! Starting race wars with previously neutral bat colonies! Ok, so that last one wasn't very smart on Saxon's part...
Then we have Transformers: Devastation finishing up this current arc. With what looks to be a (counts) five-way war? Autobots v. Decepticon v. Humans (with Scorponok & Headmasters) v. Alien Cyborg Thingies v. Whoever the hell Galvatron is working for. Confusing, yet action packed. Plus I love any comic where Megatron goes gun mode and commands Starscream to wield him "and let loose Armageddon on these heathen aliens!"
On Blue Beetle, Jaime has been captured by the Reach, stripped of his powers and clothes and is worried that his family might be in trouble. Which is why he busts out and starts kicking alien ass. And happily his girlfriend showed up to help keep his family safe...
Then its Jack of Fables where Jack has sex, brags about the wrong thing, gets betrayed and then reveals his own betrayal. Oh and Excise decides to go to war against Revise...
In Fables the Second War against the Advesary begins to move out of the planning stage. But first the Farm Fables are made an offer to ease some of their living restrictions. The issue also has guest art by Niko Henrichon. I like his faces, but some of his pages aren't very sharply defined...
Next Army@Love finishes its Freshman season. Allie finds out the truth about Batsukh and then delivers some new rules to her husband. And Loman reaches a final accommodation with his romantic rival Flabbergast. Oh and Beau Gest finally gets to meet his online girlfriend...
And now over to Marvel for the 2nd issue of Damage Control. Where the Thunderbolts show up and mostly act like jerks. Shocking. Luckily Bart Razum and Robbie have a history so Penance gets his people to back off. Letting the nice Damage Control folks and their volunteers get back to rescuing survivors from Hulk's attack...
Then we've got X-Men: First Class where Black Widow attempts to recruit Wanda into S.H.I.E.L.D. and gets her and Jean sucked into a fight with Hydra. Poor Hydra schmucks never stood a chance. Then we Ms. Coover shows us why Black Widow changed her goofy fish-net look for her mod-spy look. Oh and more Mini-Marvels with Iron Man giving battle suits to everybody. This time he goes to the Savage Land to "help" Ka-Zar...
And another New Warriors. Still not "good". But Medina's art looks MUCH better after last month's fill-in. And the writing is picking up a little. Say the book has moved up the scale to "almost average"...
After that we've got a new story arc starting on Criminal. And it looks like Brubaker and Phillips are getting more pages per issue this time....
And we finish with ps238. The Flea is trying to find Zodon before the "gold-suits" of the Headmaster do. Of course Zodon has his own plans involving breaking a casino bank or two with his system...

Royal Flash
Feb. 28th, 2008 03:15 pmThe movie starts with Flashman (played by a VERY young Malcolm McDowell) attempting to surrender the British Colors to a group of attacking Arab tribesmen. And then an artillery barrage knocks a wall down on all of them. Making it seem to the arriving British soldiers that Flashman was wounded and knocked-out in defense of the flag against a pile of enemy dead. A story he sticks to when asked by anyone. Because Harry Flashman? Not a nice person. He is a rake and a cad and a bounder. And someone who goes on to insult German High Counselor Von Bismark for being a dirty, no-good foreigner. After that its one narrow scrape after another as Flashman gets forced into a scheme to impersonate a European royal...
A movie for everybody who enjoys cheering on the bad guy...
