lurkerwithout: (Puss in boots)
Oil and Railroad baron JW Grant (Ralph Bellamy) hires weapons specialist and tactictian Henry 'Rico' Fardan(Lee Marvin), explosives expert Bill Dolworth (Burt Lancaster), scout and archer Jake Sharp (Woody Strode) and horse expert Hans Ehrengard (Robert Ryan) to recover his kidnapped wife, the beautiful Maria (Claudia Cardinale). She's been taken into Mexico by revolutionary and bandit chief Captain Jesus Garza (Jack Palance) a former friend of Rico and Dolworth's from when they fought beside Pancho Villa's army...

A perfectly done example of the Western genre with a few relatively easy to spot plot twists to keep things moving along. Marvin and Lancaster are both top notch in this relatively unknown '66 movie. It is odd watching all the Mexican extras being led by Jack Palance faking a Mexican accent...

Though I do wonder if I'm still in Maricopa county now. I'd have to check a map to see if my part of Mesa is...
